Colitis question. My mother was just told she has it and may only have 3 months to a year to live.?

I don't know any thing about this conditon but I am currently looking up info. Do u know of any one who has died from this. Is there a point where treatment will no longer work, cause my mother has all of the symptons for over 10 years. Help is appreciated, thanks.

There are several types of colitis and none are fatal by themselves, and none of them are certain to progress to more severe problems. Sometimes colitis can trigger other problems that could become fatal, but those type of problems are not inevitable. Maybe the docs found some sort of secondary problem caused by the colitis, or maybe they are flat out wrong. In any case, since there is a possibility of some sort of life-threatening condition, it might be worthwhile to get a second opinion.

Was this colitis caused by medication?

Pseudomembranous colitis can cause you to experience painful, alarming symptoms and can even become life-threatening. But even with this, most people recover so I'm not sure exactly what kind of colitis your mother has.
