Is there such a thing as free camping in Oklahoma?
I've been looking for hours for place like public land close to Oklahoma City where camping is free but I cannot find any place of this nature anywhere in the state. Someone please set me straight.

For $2.00 per person (administrative fee) you could go backpacking in Charon's Garden Wilderness Area located in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.
From I-44 take Highway 49 (exit 45). Go west 10 miles to the Refuge gate.

Investigate: Black Fork Mountain Wilderness; Charon Gardens Wilderness; Upper Kiamichi River Wilderness. Almost all National Forest lands allow dispersed camping more than one hundred feet from road, trail, and waterway. Check with the District Ranger Office in the areas that interest you.
There is no such thing as free camping anywhere: appropriate gear, fuel, transportation maintenance and repair, insurance, excise taxes, and other costs of outdoor recreation normally cost you hundreds of dollars per camping trip.
