PS3 with ylod. options?

my system is out of warranty so here are the options i have.

1. there is a technician certified to repair it in my area. he will do it for $50 but says with a repair done by anyone, including sony, it will last for at best 6 to 12 months. (Also i bought this system used a year ago so it could of had the same problems before.)

2. the technician had an offer where you can have it repaired for $30 but you had to take it in to a gamestop and exchange it for credit towards the slim PS3.

3. found repair guide online and my dad has experience soldering electronics so we could try that to see if we can fix it.

4. have the technician repair it and sell then it on ebay. money i get would go towards a new PS3

what would be my best option.

*no sending it to sony is not an option i will not pay $150+ for them to fix it (and have it break in 6 months) when i could buy a new system for 150 extra*

Id exchange it for credits towards a new ps3 slim, Saves you the headache of repairing your old PS3 every time it breaks down. you'll also be getting a brand new PS3 slim that has a much more efficient chipset allowing it to last longer, less heat build up and warranty. option 4 is viable but i think people would be hesitant to buy something refurbished.

Turn off the console from the back. Now hold down the eject and keep holding it down while you switch the console back on from the back. You should get your disc back out of the drive. As for you trying to repair it you can re-flow the GPU and CPU on the motherboard if you want. You need a heat gun, thermal compund like Silver Arctic 5 and some knowledge of electronics. Youtube has good one just type in "ylod ps3 fix".

    I'd go with 2 mate.

I've had my PS3 fail three times (YLOD). The first time it failed I handed it to Sony to fix, they charged too much and it only lasted six months tops. Get the slimmy mate. They're a little better, I haven't had any trouble with mine yet so far.

Can't blame you if you didn't want to send it to Sony. Rip off merchants.

Don't know where you're getting this information, bro.I had my PS3 fixed by Sony 2 years ago,it's running fine.

But I would go with option 2.
