The hay one, add more contrast (it's washed out and insignificant: boost up those blacks and whites and get rid of that awful gray).
There's to much "air" on top of the hay, crop the image following the "rule of thirds" in order to have the horizon matching the rule of thirds upper horizontal line.

Visually and compositionally the hay bales shot is more interesting, however, you need to do some work on it to boost the contrast - the lighting looks very flat & its underexposed. White balance looks too cool as well.
Edit: I can have a play with it to show you what I mean if you like...

The first.
Neither images are spectacular because they both look a bit flat and lifeless. If you have time, I'd even suggest going out and taking another. Try something more colorful, unless you have to stick to a B&W palette. Even so, find something that has a broad range of lights and darks.

i like the second one, it really highlights the fact that its winter with the snow and ice on the tree(:
