Info on Filipino Debuts?
Okay, so like I'm 14 (will b 15 next month) and I'm 1/2 Filipino & 1/2 American... Instead of a sweet 16, I wanna try 2 have a Debut, but I have no idea where to start... I don't really know that much about this stuff. So, my question is, Can Someone explain to me what i should plan for & the general cost of this. Thanks!

Just so you know 'Filipino debut' is 18 not 16. It's just basically a fancy party with a bit of stuff added to it like 18 roses and 18 candles so the cost wholly depends on you and how fancy you want it to be. And since the tradition says 18 you still have 3 years to prepare or worry about it. For now, just throw a nice party.

I know a friend who celebrated her debut on her 16th birthday because of her 2 cultures. Right now I am planning my debut and let me tell you it is a lot of work! My birthday isn't for another year but it's like a wedding and you have to plan early or else nothing will get done. Basically a debut is pretty much like a Quinceanera but for filipinos and instead of having a big bash on your 15th birthday you have it on your 18th (or in your case 16th).
Debuts can tend to pile up in cost. I am trying really hard to keep the cost of mine down because I have to pay for the majority of it :P. Right now with catering, venue, dress, dj & lighting, and photography i'm at about $4,300 and trust me I am cutting corners everyway I can. I would say that they typically will cost $5,000- $10,000 give or take a few thousand.
Pretty much if I were you I would talk to your parents and start planning now. It helps to get an event planner if you can afford it because a lot of times they have really good connections with vendors so you can get the things you need at a lower price, the only downside to that is that you end up having to pay the coordinater in the long run. You will need pretty much everything that a wedding needs. If you want to see what a few debuts look like I will post some youtube videos at the bottom of this answer. These are what i've been looking at to get a few good ideas for mine.
Oh another thing that you should know is that there are a lot of ceremonies and traditions. The first is that you have to pick 18 (you may want to change all the 18 things to 16) people who you are close to, to be in your court (9 guys, 9 girls). You pair them up and they're pretty much just dance partners through the night. You will have your grand enterance and then typically you will go straight into a classic dance (most of the time its a waltz). Another ceremony is the 18 roses ceremony where 18 men in your life come up and give you a red rose you dance for a few seconds and the next man comes and hands you a rose until you have 18 roses in your arms. Typically after this you have your father daughter dance (like at a wedding). The last tradition I can thing of at this moment is the 18 candles ceremony where important women in your life come up with a candle and give a short speech about you or share a special memory they then proceed to hold the candle or put it by the cake. After all the speeches the debutane will go around and blow out her birthday candles.
That's all the info I have right now but if you want more feel free to email me with any questions you have.

I suggest you do your Sweet 16 instead cuz debuts are for when you turn 18 =D
Basically, it's a little similar to a Quinceneara party except obviously, you would be turning 18 instead of 15. I don't really know how the events go for planning a Debut party but all I know is that you're supposed to pick out 18 guys to be your 18 roses. What they do is each of them get to dance with you in order that you put them on (each guy will hand you a rose). The 18th guy (usually your boyfriend) is the most special one because he's the one that completes your boquet of 18 roses. Plus he's going to be the one sitting by you & escorting you the whole time.
Then there's your 18 candles. These are 18 female friends that will each talk about you and their wishes for you, etc... During their turns, they will be lighting a candle on your cake one by one until all the candles are lit up.
Another thing you do is that you're supposed to have a father and daughter dance sometime during the celebration.
Anyway, here's few websites (under the source) that I looked up for you if you want more info.
You don't gotta set-up a dance of waltz or some sort unless you really wanna be super fancy about it. Many girls just do it simply & just include what I mentioned above. Either way, it will be special =)
P.S. I will be going to Philippines next year to celebrate my debut! =)

It's like planning for a wedding. You need a big beautiful dress. It's all formal so guys get to wear tuxedos and all the girls are in dresses as well and their hair is all up and tidy. There's a dance too. So a debut is like prom actually :)
