Can I use a human pain killer for dogs?

I just found out 30 inutes ago that my little dog (about 4-5 kilos) has an open wound

in the back part of his body, just on top of his tail. My son was trying to massage him

as he was lying down. He cried so loud as he was in pain, so we have to find out why.

They we saw that his skin stocked together in an open wound, how did it happen?

we don't know, we can only think that this guy, our next door neighbor hates him from

when he was a puppy (why? because he said when my dog barks, he wakens his baby

up, so he asked me to give him away, but of course I don't want to) so we thought he

might have thrown something at him over the fence, but we didn't see, and the dog can't talk either.it's hard to prove it.

The other day, he was still talking about waht had happened in thew past, this was over 4yrs ago now, as his bany, is already more than 4yrs old.

I wanna give him ( my dog) a pain killler called mobic, I just wanna have your (any one

out there please) as it is toooooo late to ring for help, also it's holiday now)

PLEASE any help out there?

Update:

Sorry for all my clerical errors... ( ididn't do the proof-reading, i just typed as fast as i can and published it for quick help.)

BABY not bany ... sorry ... and all the other errors..

We don't exactly know when did it happen .. but last night he was in my son's bed, he was patting him and i heard the same cry, I had a look and see what my son was doing to him, I didn't see him hurting our dog so, I didn't check our dog, only then that he was lying next to me when my son tried to pat him, that's why I've checked. Could have been be yesterday or the day after.

I kinda have an idea that this next door did it, as the fence between us is not high enough, the fence is up to his shoulder and from the fence he can attack my dog. It's a different kind of wound, from hurting himself .. it's uncovered skin, redish and very fresh looking wounds alongside each other . My dog can only get out from under the fence, only if he digs deep, but he won't get that kind of wound, i can assur yous, he

That's the same generic drug as Meloxicam which my last dog took long term for arthritis.

Look online and work out the dose for a dog of the same weight as yours. (Needs to be accurate for a small dog.)

That drug can irritate the stomach, cause internal bleeding there and also, in long term use bady effect kidney function.

It would best to see your vet. If you're miles and miles out in the bush then phone an E- vet and describe what's wrong and the drugs available to you.

The function of pain is to get the animal to rest and give the affected area have a chance to heal.

You can give them a child's Aspirin but this thins the blood and often makes bleeding worse.

Keep the wound clean and germ free. Keep flies away,

ADD: " Human vs. Veterinary Meloxicam

Give your dog veterinary meloxicam (Metacam), not Mobic or generic human meloxicam. Some veterinarians may prescribe Mobic tablets over Metacam oral suspension, because it can be less expensive for people with larger canines, but because one quarter of a 7.5 mg tablet (lowest human dose) is more than enough to treat a 45-pound dog, tablets are inappropriate for small dogs. According to Wendy C. Brooks, DVM, "... human strength pills will be too strong except in very large dogs. It is important not to use human medications on pets unless your veterinarian has provided detailed dosing instructions."

If the dog only cried out in pain when the wound was touched why do you want to risk giving him a drug that can kill him. Human Mobic is much stronger than the Meloxicam dosage vets prescribe for dogs.

Keep the wound clean or just leave it alone if cleaning causes pain and take him to the vet as soon as you can possibly get there, he may need stitching up. If he was my dog I'd be on my way to the emergency vet now if I thought the wound was too serious to wait until tomorrow morning.

Do you know how long the wound has been there? Did it happen today, yesterday...when?

Is it possible the dog got caught under something an injured himself trying to get out?

You need to take the dog to the vet. Don't let your child massage a dog's open wound. The sore is obviously the cause of the pain. It might be a chew sore. I don't know if the neighbor could have done it. I don't know why he hates your dog. Maybe you should exercise and train your dog more to keep him from bothering the neighbors. I don't think he could have thrown something over the fence to cause an open wound. That doesn't wound at all logical. What is a bany? Do not give your dog any human pain killers. You need to wash the wound with soap and water and then get him to the vet.

What kind of vet would spay or neuter a dog and then not dispense pain medication when the dog is picked up? The only safe human meds for a dog is baby aspirin, and even that can cause problems if used too often. Get back to that vet for some canine pain meds.

I do NOT think it is a good idea to give a dog human pain killers because, human pain killers are MADE for humans, and you can not see what the pain killer might be doing to the dogs body. How where you planing on giving this dog the pills? It will be very difficult. Take the dog to the vet ASAP or call animal control to come and pick up your dog and take it to the Pet ER. (depending on where you live) Remember, People can overdose on pain killers, and animal are very different inside then humans are.

I'm not so sure that will help your dog. Seeing as you have a pain killer specifically made for humans, to use it on a dog could bring side effects or make the situation worse. Contact the nearest animal doctor and hopefully pray that the person is a true animal lover and will not be bother. Hope it turns out well, dogs are one of human's trusted companions.

There are to many variables hard to say. Will he let you put a warm compress on it while holding him? It will calm his muscles and him if he will let you. I have used aspirin using weight for dosage.

So you can get him to the vet to clean it and or stitch him up. I would still call and turn the sob in witness or not he will know you are watching now and animal cruelty's a crime.

NO never give a animal human medicines with out consulting your vet first. You do not know the proper dosage for his weight.

I know a cat who was saved by human pain killers- the vet was shut - ya it will be ok as a last resort. remember they are often tested on animals in laboratories
