What purpose does an iPad perform? I have a mobile and a laptop, why would I need an iPad?

Do you NEED a mobile? Do you NEED a laptop? No. They are luxuries. Society has survived for many centuries without these devices, and you can survive without them.

The same goes for an iPad. You don't NEED one, but it is a luxury like many other items. What purpose does it serve? What purpose do you want it to serve? There are thousands and thousands of apps you can use on it. I have one, and I use it to watch movies, track my exercise workouts, read email, keep my contact list, track my appointments and other events, listen to MLB games during the season, keep my recipes in it, read books on it (iBooks and Kindle), and many, many other purposes.

*EDIT* - @Lil JJ - Apple DOES make software that basically serves the same purpose as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Check out Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. These apps on the iPad will also open Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.

If you have a laptop you can already do everything an IPAD can do. Its basically a larger version of the IPOD/IPHONE made so that you can read books better and browse the internet in 3G but in reality you still haft to have wi-fi to do it why not just bring your laptop. Eitherway if you have an IPOD/IPHONE you can still even read books it is just a IPOD with a bigger screen.

People are stating that you can do anything a laptop can do but they would be wrong because Apple Portable Products (IPAD, IPHONE, IPOD) do not have any version of Office (Microsoft's versions of Word, Database & Presentation Processing Program) Apple does not make a Word, Database & Presentation Processing Program)
