I'll suggest to take the piano first :)
But if you never had a proper lesson before.
I suggest don't try anything too hard first...
Start with something simple..
Base on your question, that Canon in D is too hard for you..
I didn't tell you couldn't play this piece,
but starting at the first time with a piece like that won't improve your skill..
trust me with this :)
have you ever heard this sentence, 'don't try to run before you can walk' ?
that's occured here! :)

You should only take up an interest in one instrument at a time. Both the violin and piano are very difficult and involve much practice. Since you're taking a piano lesson next year, you might want to invest in a short-term practice on a violin unless you're otherwise preoccupied.
The piano is a rather difficult instrument to master, but skill comes with practice and time. You should work on form before taking online tutorials about playing little jingles. If you develop bad habits before you begin professional lessons, you might have a bit of trouble breaking those habits when you come up to that point. If you're very serious about wanting to learn, than that price shouldn't deter you.
As for playing the violin, lessons are absolutely paramount to proper use of the instrument. Bad habits on the violin are even harder to break than bad habits on the piano. Try to contact a local violinist or musician of any sort that might know a good violinist or violin instructor. When learning the art of either of these instruments, you must be dedicated to practice and progress and you mustn't waste any time that you can have with your instructor.
Getting a trustworthy instructor that is comfortable to be around is also very important. If your instructor is awkward to be around, then you will feel awkward to play your instrument around them. An environment is one of the most influential things for a musician, and an awkward or uncomfortable environment will make it awkward or uncomfortable to play that instrument. Choose wisely upon a teacher for each and either instrument, because they are both of moderately great difficulty.
I hope that this helps you, and good luck in your endeavors and pursuit of music!
