I have stayed at the Excalibur (too far at the end of the strip) and Mirage (loved it there) and have had good experiences at both. I would suggest going to the hotel websites and join their email list. They always send out emails with bargain prices. Just remember a room maybe 39-79 during the week and on the weekend it will be more. So go during the week if you can. Plus if you pick a hotel that has a monorail stop that is a good idea. Or a hotel next to one of the hotels that has a stop. You can do car rentals from most hotels too so it would be fun to rent for one day and see some of the off the strip things. Drive the Red Rocks loop, go see the Hoover damn and visit Ethel's chocolate factory. You gotta see at least one show too. Have fun!

The best hotels to save money and be right on the strip would be Imperial Palace, Flamingo and Harrahs. Another way to save is look into Hooters which is just a few steps off the strip and they price their rooms as if they were far off the strip. If you go to the following site and in the upper right hand corner of the page you will find a search engine for hotels in Las Vegas. Enter the dates you are thinking about and it will search the entire web for the best prices. Saves time and money and makes it easy to compare.
Forget a car you can easily walk to any place you want along the strip. Stay away from the Sahara, Circus Circus, Riviera and Stratosphere. They are too far away from the rest of the strip and will cost you a lot extra in transportation.

Wow its going to be expensive! March-July are the most expensive times to stay in vegas.. Maybe Imperial Palace or Bally's would be good but dont expect an cool crowd your age at the pool areas.. If you and your friends put your money together and get a room at MGM, Planet Hollywood, Palms, Hard Rock, Excalibur and Monte Carlo etc that might be better because you will have more people your age in the casinos and pool area.

No hotel on the strip is affordable unless you will be gambling. The casinos don't want to be tying up rooms on people who don't gamble. Unless you're willing to pay what the room costs.
That being said, if you want an affordable room you need to go off the strip.
You should do your homework especially with Vegas. One good site is cheapolasvegas.com
Cabs/taxis are affordable so renting a car is not really needed.
I hope this helps.

Best affordable hotel would be Flamingo or Ballys. Great locations, smack in the middle of the strip, and decent hotels. They're dfeinitely best bang for your buck.
If you are heading to vegas, just find the best specials and coupons at http://www.mycheapvegas.com/
Cheers!

The center strip area is ideal, because you can fairly easily walk to about anywhere else. Check the rates at Flamingo and Harrah's, which are decent places in good locations. They usually have good prices, particularly during the week.

All hotels are safe on Strip. The more economical are Excalibur and Monte Carlo. The Strip is 3.8 miles long from Sahara Hotel to Mandalay Bay. There is a free tram at the Monte Carlo that takes you to Aria (walk easy to brand new Cosmopolitan) and then on to Bellagio.
Monte Carlo on corner to walk to Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, Tropicana, MGM
Bellagio on corner to walk to Caesars Palace, Ballys, Paris, Bills and Flamingo
BTW you have to be 21 to get a room, to go into casino or club or bars

No need to get getto and stay at the Harrahs,Ballys,Flamingo,Sahara. Look into Signature its connected to the MGM but much better then the MGM, Mirage,Vdara (use Promo codes)

circus circus and sahara are affordable, you may have to take the bus to get where you are
going, but it is cheap. if you stay at sahara and do not likes buses, you can use the
monorail system going from sahara to mgm, it cost a bit more, it does not go
all over the strip, but it is less crowded and much faster.
good luck and enjoy.
