My friend's cat keeps jumping on my leg and biting. Ow, and help?

A few hours ago, I was at my friend's house. She went to work on a project for a few minutes, so I ran over to play with the cat in his play room.

So, everything's all fun and cute. He's meowing really, really loud and it's adorable. I play with him for a little while.

Then, all of a sudden, the little guy starts running across the room like he's trying to win a marathon. He even jumped on the window a few times.

After a few minutes of staring speechlessly, he stops and creeps closer. I walk away, since I'm on the phone now. He leaps on my leg and sort of... hugs my ankle, I guess? His claws are out, too. He's also biting. Since I'm wearing jeans, it doesn't hurt all that much. I clap my hands, shake my leg a little, and yell, "NO!" He jumps off and runs around the room some more.

This continues to happen for a few minutes. One time, he digs his claws deep. I react without thinking and push him off with a loud "OW!" It wasn't a hard shove -- just a little push since one of my hands was still holding the phone.

I'm freaked out, and when I try to leave, he runs to the door and meows at me like I've done something horrible. If it had been an hour ago I would've squealed and went to get a feather to play with, but I'm worried for my poor leg's safety so I get my friend to open the door and pick up the cat so I can get out. We can't open the door when he's near it because he'll run out and attack the dog.

I think he's only a month or two old. He's not neutered. My friend's family took him in when a friend's cat had kittens and couldn't keep them.

So, why the aggressiveness?

Update:

@KELLY M

They only kept the cat in that room because the 'owner' (her sister) wasn't home. However, I'm a little curious -- you declawed your cat? Fixed, I can see, and it's smart. But, declawing your cat and talking about a cat's rights? That's a little hypocritical, don't you think?

I was told it is because the cat wasn't socialised & is trying to be the boss. A squirt from a water bottle may help teach him to behave.

It sounds like the cat got over excited, some cats do not do well with a lot of hyper play. This is how cats act when they play fight with one another.. with another cat they pick up one anothers signals but with a human it is different. I would go easy around this cat. You or she can make excellent cat toys for free. Just take a pair of clean socks yu no longer want. the longer type work best. the short sport socks are not good for this. Just tie the sock in a knot and throw it to the cat and watch the fun.. If u want something really cool just pick up a small pack of catnip at the pet store it should not cost more than 3 dollars or so.. put a little cat nip in the sock before u tie it up... This could be ur special treat when u go to that house.... cats never seem to get tired of these toys and they are not dangerous or made who knows where with dyes and stuff.. The mistake some people make with cats is when they are kittens with tiny teeth and claws, they play fight with their kitty. The kitten starts to think of hands or legs as cat toys... when the cats teeth and claws are a half inch long and the cat is big, it is not so much fun for the human any more..... so that cat may have learned that or may be bored and need toys, may need to be spayed or neutered which calms them down and makes them happier.. just like children you don not give them any attention when they attack you. This is just a kitten that is acting like one, he thought u were one of his kitten sisters... Whatever u do dont scream or act excited, they think you are playing and will do it more. good luck, u and ur friend can get on line and get loads of cat info.. oh about the catnip u do not need it for a kitten, a cat usually has to be older to respond to it. Have her keep her toilet lid (no joke) down and the bath room door closed, watch out for the washere and dryer. kittens can get tossed in with the laundry.. or fall into the toilet and not be able to get out and drown... good luck and happy new year...

Why would your friend get a cat they have to lock in a room. The cat is going to go mental becuase it is lonely and lacks stimulation. Let the cat attack the dog, the dog needs to learn to defend itself.

The cat is probably turning feril or mental due to the isolation. All mammals react to conditioning cats are not immune to this. I think it is disgusting that they lock the cat away like that, whilst the dog roams free.

I took in a feril cat and it attacked us, the dogs etc..the dogs attacked back, she would be cuddly now and then but for the most part she was wild, she literally climbed my walls. I got the cat fixed and declawed and now she is much more lovable and friendly she still play fights with the dogs and annoys our other cat. But now she acts sane.

if u have not already poured hydrogen peroxide over the injuries, it can be too overdue besides. How lengthy has it been because u had a tetnaus shot, if over 7 yrs, u will have to without doubt move get one. As for the leisure, probabilities r u gets cat scratch fever, it is extremely painful and final 24 to forty eight hrs and is painful as hell. It occurred to me two times and I can reside the leisure of my lifestyles with out ever getting it once more.

he wants to play. drag a shoelace around on the floor and walls and exhaust him to near death with it. don't leave a shoelace around alone. mine got one tangled around his neck and lucky i was there.

declawing a cat causes horrible suffering to a cat and you're right, it shouldn't be done.

Source(s): have a wildcat. used to do the same thing you're describing to me and it worked with the shoelace every time. don't bother yelling no or anything. just go straight for the shoelace.
