Is 15 too old to start hockey?

I'm 15, a girl and I can skate relatively well forwards and working on backwards. I have been skating for a few months and I want to play hockey on a league with time/Is it too late? Will everyone on the team be way better than me from more experience?

I am a believer that if you are determined then it is never to late to start. I would suggest a few things to help out. First skate as often as possible. You can go to your rink for drop-in or open ice sessions. Also, if you can inline skate as much as possible. Inline skating will help with your endurance and balance. You can also take a stick and puck/ball out on while inline skating and work on these skills. Second, start working out. Doing squats, running, etc. Last, when you feel ready join a house team. This will help you learn to play on a team.

Yes your teammates will probably be better than you but if you work hard you should be fine. I would suggest doing powerskating before joining a hockey league so that your skating will be pretty good first. Stickhandling and shooting, etc... are a lot easier to learn than skating, so if u can skate well than you should learn the rest quickly. I have been playing girls hockey since I was 6 and it is a lot of fun :)

  • It's not too late. You may not be able to play at an elite/AAA level but you can surely find a competitive league with players of similar talent.

15;s a late start. but that doesnt mean you cant start. go to a couple drop in times at your rink. go play with some of them and see. you will most likely get rocked and leave with bruises, i know i sure did, but it will only make u better, its a matter of how hard you push yourself and what your dedication is to the sport. start small then try out for a team. :) Good luck!!

It's never too late! If you believe in yourself you'll be able to do it. Sure, everyone may be better but it'll just push you to work harder. There's other people who start late just like you, so you're not the only one.

I play in a men's league where we have guys in their forties who have only been playing 5-6 years. You're never too young.

kind of, because most people start really young like 8-10. but deffenitly go for it.

If you love the game, play.... Who cares how old you are when you start.

    You'll be happy you did.

    Good luck.
