Why do athiests make a big deal about any religious item that is in public views?

I'm confused. First let me say am I NOT one of thoe Christians who hate athiests and think that thery are going to hell. In face I am prtty much undecided on the whole religion thing, but it seems like everytime I turn around an athiest is mad because something that someone did. A shirt someone wore to work, a natvity on church grounds, nearly anything that may "offend" them becasue they don't believe in God. As long as the Christians are not trying to directly force thier religion on to them why does it matter? In fact by not allowing people to express thier religion (outside of goverment buildings) is restricting them from following thier religion. I don't understand why the ahtiests hate Christians so much, and of you do believe me, I was on a website called friendly athiest and someone asked the group to say ONE nice thing about Christians, most couldn't. Why do they hate ALL of them. I can understand them hating the judgemental ones but why everyone else. Part of the reason they say they hate them is that they shove thier religion down thier throats but I've knoticed that athiests shove the fact that they believe Christianity is a myth just as much. Why can't they just respect the differences, and only hate the ones who are the bad judgemental type now the ones who are caring and don't even tell people they are Christians unless asked?

Update:

I'm not trying to say ALL athiests hate Christians. And I'm also talking about the Christians who think they should be the only ones allowed to have thier beliefs displayed.

I'm an atheist and I have no problem with Christians or other believers of different things having their symbols on their property or person. I don't hate all Christians at all. I think their beliefs are lacking good basis but its their own right what to believe. If some atheists take it to the point of repulsion at even personal symbols on private property or churches it may be that living in a Christian or religious dominated society they have encountered too many examples of those who wanted to take it much further then that and were pushy and coercive of their beliefs with others. Cause and effect, ying/yang sort of thing. Too many encounters with those type of Christians and lets face it a sizable number do try to make their religion a political movement where they interject their faith beliefs in public policies that limit other's rights who don't share their beliefs that way. I see a lot of reference to Christian beliefs around pretty much without challenge but an atheist billboard results in Christian uproar.

I think it would be easier for me to say what I like about my Christian friends as individuals, their religious belief aside and to me mostly irrelevant. I could say though that I think its nice when some Christians use their religion and deity concepts to nurture and develop positive traits in themselves like kindness, compassion, and tolerance. So there is one nice thing.

I'm a Buddhist, one of the most peaceful religions there are, not an atheist nor a Christian.

Of course, NOT ALL atheists feel offended. Just like not all Christians are out there to convert people, though I haven't met one that had not try to convert me, then tell me to go to hell for not believing in the same god. Well, I can only imagine that some atheists are just fed up with the whole convert thing and have a more negative view about the religion itself.

I use to like Christianity and Christians, but after all the negative encounters and being bombarded with attempts to convert, I must say that hearing the word "god" now leave me with an uneasy and unpleasant feeling. I cannot shake it off. All the Christians I've met told me that my religion is false, that only their god is real They want me to believe in and respect their god when they don't do the same for mine. Believing in you own religion is one thing but disregarding all other religions, putting the word "god" in everything. I'm sorry but nowadays, the word "god" is used to justified for many things I don't support and believe in, such as "Bring back White America: God and gun, what a peaceful message that is!

No disrespect but I think the atheists do have a point. Believing in your own religion is one thing, making others believe even though they don't want to is a different thing. You don't have to put the word "god" in everything and don't use god to divide this country more than it's already is

Cos there is a lack of tolerance now days. It's freaking crazy, lol........ If it wasn't so sad it would be funny. I can only speculate what goes on in the minds of people. If they don't understand it the correct avenue is to destroy it. Maybe it has always been this way but I've noticed it getting worse over the last 10 years. It seemed a lot more chill back in the day and it has nothing to do with Atheism in general but a lot of ppl are wound up tight. Truth is, even if you didn't totally believe the Bible you have to admit it has some philosophical merit, same with other religions. Welcome to the jungle baby.

easily, as an atheist and from my impact of alternative atheists, we do no longer believe we've the solutions to each thing. we don't leap to conclusions in keeping with inadequate data as a fashion to describe the various stuff we don't comprehend so the version is that atheists are thoroughly fantastic with no longer understanding jointly as maximum non secular human beings seem so uncomfortable with the thought they desire a simplistic rationalization so as that they might loosen up with their "understanding". i'm no longer asserting all atheists are smart or that one and all non secular human beings are not yet ordinarily my journey is that non secular human beings act extra useful than data helps and subsequently are claiming to comprehend better than they do. Atheists declare to comprehend some issues that take place to disprove some popularly held non secular ideals yet they actually basically argue against a non secular assumption of a god. they do no longer declare to instruct he would not exist. If the declare of understanding above and previous the data is your degree of ego then non secular human beings have a a great way better ego ordinarily and that i does no longer say maximum atheists are "very very nearly as undesirable" regardless of the certainty that some are.

I don't. But separation of church and state should be followed. It's discrimination if it isn't. FFRF put some atheist signs on some buses. You should of heard the ruckus. So why are Christians allowed to advertise all over but the minute a sign for atheism goes up it's vandalized? I would say they're jerks on each side, and in no way "everyone".

I second what's been said so far.

I don't even care about Xtian displays on government property provided:

    a) there's no public money involved,

    b) They aren't permanent, and

    c) Xtians are willing to share the same space with all religions (which sady never seems to be the case)

It not so much in public view that is the problem, it is when it is owned/sponsored by public funds and/or on public property. The government is supposed to remain neutral when it comes to religion and not promote one over the other.

If a government facility wants to have a religious display of all religions, that would be fine, but if they exclude even one religion, then all must be excluded.

Basically, what Blooper said. It's not a big deal to me if churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, and other religious structures are displayed prominently in my city. Some of them are historic and quite beautiful.

It's only when the government sponsors these organizations or the construction of their symbols that we are irked.

I don't care about nativity's on private property.

I don't care what your t-shirt says. Your free to express yourself.

However in the workplace... government buildings... if you want to pray, pray but do it in your own time and don't stop the show for the rest of us.

There's a big difference between atheism and secularism.

It's not about being in public view, it's about being on government property, or being government funded. No single religion should be advocated above another by our secular government, because that is favoritism.
