seriously need answers please!!!!. should i stand firm not not naming after husbands dad?

seriously need answers please!!!!. should i stand firm not not naming after husbands dad?

im stuck and dont want to hurt anyones feelings BUT and Big BUT.......

im 6 weeks pregnant and my husband has made it very clear he wants our child if we have a boy to somehow be named after his dad.

I am totally aginst this for more than one reason.

first ~ his dads name is Ervin Ray. i hate the name. it sounds redneck, and i just dont want to have a hil billy named child when my other three are more common modern names.

I dont like the sound of it what so ever.

second ~ my husband tries to say to it doesnt have to be exactly Ervin Ray but some how related so he has brought up the name Raymond i just dont like that name at all. he mentioned Erwin dont like that either.

third ~ his dad is a real jerk to me and is somewhat a jerk to everyone in general. he is a grouch in general always only has negative things to say. always has to throw it in your face what you could have done better, tells you you should be like him and work 3 job and dont work about having family time, just pay the bills like he did. he starts arguements over stupid crap and talks crap wispering thinking i cant hear him when im 10 feet away. I cant say i hate the man cause he is my father in law but i am no where close to ever being his friend to be sweet about it.

and fourth~ my husband brother is a JR and has the same name. his brother is a low life that doesnt do a thing to help himself. he has done some seriously f-cked up things and has done time for them and he disgustes me. we dont associate with him hardly ever, not holidays or anything. but i dont want my child having a name after my husband dad and i see my son and think of his brother. im afraid i would be turned off my child. and to make it worse im due the same month as his brothers birthday.

what would you do?

i have said probably the closest i could do would be

Christopher Ray ( christopher being my husband middle name) but i would not be happy about it

i have mentioned Ryan as it has the letters ray in it but he says no cause my aunts husband is ryan though they live 5 hours away and we see them once a year. or ever Rylan possibly but he says no to both.

i dont want to upset my husband saying i just cant name my child after his father cause he would be upset very upset but this is a life long decision and cant be taken lightly.

PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE.

Update:

OH MY OTHER KIDS ARE

Thomas Isiac

Brianna Nicole

Ashlee Lynn

all named after family

Update 2:

and i must add my two older kids are from my ex but our daughter ashlee was named after both my grandpa with the LEE from my grandpas middle name and Lynn from his mother that passed away Carolyn

Update 3:

Jayda ~ i didnt think about that. i like the name Grayson. and like many of you say he will have his last name and that is why my hussband really wants a boy. he is the only one able to carry on the last name. his sister gave her kids her boyfriends name and his brother is not going to have kids as his wife is now too old .

i would tell your husband and say the same things you said to us but in a gentler way. its fair that you let your husband have a say, but i would name my son a name i dont like. Hopefully its a girl i guess. what you can do is have the kids middle name have ray in it. Grayson, Graydon, Raymond, Tray, or any other boy names that have ray. you wont use his middle name unless hes in trouble so it wont REALLY matter. I definitly usderstand where your coming from though. Its up to you but i would NOT let his name have anything to do with the name Ervin. I mean seriously yuck. If you`re really against it, you can try to convince your husband that his dad has already been honoured because he has a son named after him. By what you said its not much of an honour but still. If you get a girl and plan to have another kid, i would just make her middle name rachel so you dont have to go through this again. lol. Good luck and i hope your son or daughter ends up with a cute name,

Well, if you really don't like Ervin Ray then don't use it.

It is up to the brother/junior to use the name.

    You could compromise and ...

Use the same initials E R:

    Edward Remigius

    Elijah Reuben

    Eachan Robert

    Evan Richard

Use Ray as a second name with another that you love:

    Caleb Ray

    Maximus Ray

    Christoff Ray

    William Ray

Remind your husband that the child will indeed carry your father-in-law's

surname and that the man closest to you whom you'd love to name the

    boy after is your husband:

    Leo Christopher

    Edward Christopher

    Mateo Christopher

    John Christopher

I also find Edwin Humphray or Ewan Murray attractive.

Stand strong people talk about hurt feelings but I don’t think someone should ever name a child something that they do not like regardless of why they don’t like it. I’m sure your husband wouldn’t want to name the baby something that he just absolutely did not like. If you cave you will most likely regret it. Frankly this could all be a mote point since you could end up having another little girl.

I think Christopher Ray would be nice but if you don’t like that either I wouldn’t suggest using it. Ryan would also be nice but your husband does not like it.

Maybe find a name you both like and just use Ray as the middle name. The other option someone else mentioned was giving the same initials E R. There are a lot of good E and R starting names.

Heres how I see it, it seems your basing somewhat on the name because you dont care for it so you should bring child up to put that name to a better example thats if you want to give your husband his way. Now I don't particuarly lik ethose names either and if this isnt what you want then dont do it this is somewhat of a big deal and think of your child they might not care for there name however mayeb in the future they can change it. Raymond isnt THAT bad PLEASE PLEASE pick that over Ervin I beg of you. People can call him Ray for short. You can also let your husband name hi msome god awful name but when you put the name legally just put a nick name to. My aunt named her child Madoline Matty (dont rember her middle name or last haha) But the point is the yput a nick name to. But still your husband will probably call him Ervin or whatever he names the kid. Hopefully its a girl I guess... And considring you named your kids after your family all three I think you should tell you husband its ok to name him after HIS family but you dont like those names and maybe he could pick someone else. Maybe his grandfather? I myself dont want to name my future kids after my family I want there names ot stand out and be different.

Just keep Ray as the middle name BOOM the connection between grandfather and son has been made, then you can choose any first name you'd like. I don't think Ervin sounds redneck =/ I live in probably one of the most redneck countys around if there ever was one and never heard of an Ervin, or Erwin either lol. It sounds geeky to me.

Maybe you can let your husband have this one. You are obviously fine with your other three kids names. If this means that much to him, shouldn't you be a supportive wife? Think about it. If it was the other way around, wouldn't you want your husband to be supportive and allow you to name your child after the person you wished to. Maybe you could compromise and make Ervin Ray your child's middle name. And if it helps at all Ervin Ray is a horrible name at all.

I had the exact same problem, I have ended up naming him Peter but as it is my husbands middle name I look at it as I named him after him. I was soooo pissed off about it for weeks and weeks but now I like it cos I got the 2 names I wanted into his name too :)

I think Christopher Ray is a good name and he can't whinge that he doesn't have part of his fathers name.

Just remember he is in your body, your doing the hard work now and for the rest of the kids life so you pick a name you like.

If your kids all share the same surname as his father, that should be good enough. You DO NOT need to give your child his all his other names. Your husband needs to respect your wishes, and help you find a name that you BOTH like. If he forces you to use that name you will always dislike it, and that's an awful way to feel about your own child. Just say NO - and keep saying no. Don't worry about upsetting him, it's not your fault his father is a jerk. :-)

what about Ray Ervin? or just Ray as the first name, its a very cute first name :)

but at the end of the day i think you should give in to your husband, look at it this way, you have three children whose names you do like, and your husband is already very excited about this name while you dont seem to have a particular name you desperatly want, sometimes its good to give in if it will make the other person happy, and you could always come up with a nickname to call your kid by when he gets a bit older

Just because someone has the same name as another doesn't mean that they will have the same personality. Your husband might be feeling pressured for a variety of reasons to please his Dad.

You are only 6 weeks pregnant so have plenty of time to toss this around. Emotions are high with the new news right now. It is important to give the child a name that you like.
