How can I remove the public folders from clients Outlook without Exchange server 2002 running?
We have been using MICROSOFT Exchange server 2007 for a year, migrated from Exchange 2002. We did not know what to do with our company's calendars (public folders) on the old system for the time, and left that old server up running so clients could still access the public folders - that was the only reason of leaving that running while everything else was running off the new Exchange 2007. Recently that old server crashed and we cannot get it back up. The issue we are having is some random clients who run Outlook 2002 receive the message "Requesting data from Microsoft Exchange Server *old server name*" while sending an email with an attachment. Some other instances are that clients Outlook is very slow and hangs and locks, which tells me Outlook is still looking for the public folders, which are not there.
Thanks for the input Jeff, This got us thinking, and now we think we have to "remove" that storage database for the public folders on the new server (exchange 2007). The database is pointing at a local drive on the server and not at the old server. It is not letting us remove it at the moment, so now I will look into this issue.

I had the same problem a few years ago when I migrated an Exchange Server to 2007 from 2003. I believe there are several solutions for this.
First, go into the new Exchange server's system tools and find the path to the public folders. If it does in fact reference the path to your old server then you will need to change it.
Second, I believe there is a group policy for Outlook. You can download the Microsoft Office group policy templates for free. I believe there is a group policy for Outlook to enable/disable the public folders.
I know this really doesn't give you a definate answer but I hope it helps.

i'm afraid, we can not set your place pc OutLook to receive emails out of your substitute sever mailbox. you are able to desire to be interior the same community configure your substitute account in OutLook. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, you're able to do it any incorrect way. you're able to have your IT depratment to grant you a VPN (digital private community) get right of entry to to get right of entry to your place of work's community out of your place. as quickly as you're on VPN, you are able to configure your account and get emails. once you disconnect VPN, you will no longer get any emails, as you're no longer linked to your place of work's community.
