Question about Surround Speakers....?

Hi guys, I am planning to buy a 5.1 set up for my house.. I already have a Yamaha Amplifier and am buying PSB range of speakers. But the problem here is I have nearly exhausted my budget of 2500$ (in fact it's gone over the initial estimate), so I was thinking on cutting some component from the 5.1 list...

Now the easiest option I thought was to cut down the rear 2 surround speakers which helps me somewhat land near the initial budget... So my question to you is how important are the rear 2 speakers? I heard that they only fire for about 15% of the total listning time in movies so would lose much if I set the front 2 and center correctly right?

I am buying these 2 front tower speakers....

This center speaker....

A 350 watt sub woofer (same company)....

So what do you think... How much will my sacrifice on the rear speakers affect the sound quality... The prime use will be to listen to music and gaming...

Oh and I already have 2 old rear speakers lying around from my previous set up (mind you they are kind a crap), should I just use those instead as a temporary solution? I have heard people saying not to do that since it could mismatch, but I doubt the impact would be that substantial could it?

alot of people say dont mismatch. But i have a kill system using mismatched speakers. The rear speakers will make your gaming alot better. Save up for those high priced ones beacuse they will make a huge difference.

If this setup is for watching movies, then downgrade the rear speakers a bit. In a properly set up home theatre, the rear speakers should not be readily apparent most of the time. If you switch them OFF, however, then you will suddenly realize that they were contributing to the overall effect.

you need to cut back the twine and strip it, the problem is going to be determining that's the (+) and that's the (-) ..you probable won't have the skill to reattach the plug yet what might you like to try this for any way?.. in case you chop back the plug with some twine linked you need to reattach it by spicing the wires jointly and overlaying the splice with electric tape.

Use what you have until you get what you want. Congratulations on not going for a HTIB.
