Do you have to bleach black hair before you dye it?

My hair is currently dark brown/black and I want to dye it red underneath. Do I have to bleach it blonde first, and then dye it red?

Thanks!

Yes you will have to. There is no doubt about that. Color fades soooooo fast though. Do it! because hair isn't forever and if worse comes to worse you can just dye it back black and that will be easy. =]

Yes. It's going to be really hard to get your hair to red. Are you going to get it professionally done? If so, then they will bleach it for you. If you're using box hair dye, I suggest getting a bleaching kit, though it depends on how well the bleach lifts the brown. Your hair might go to any orange color, so it'd be better to get two bleaching kits.

if you do bleach it,the red would come out very vibarant, but if you didnt you would only notice it a little bit.but if you use the bleach it will be very dry and will fade out fast

Yes. Unfortunately, your hair color is too dark and the red will not show up unless it is bleached.

Sorry, there is nothing else you can really do.

    Hope I helped!! :)
