When will Guild Wars 2 be released?

The development-team behind GuildWars 2, Arenanet, have repeatedly said "When it is done" and for good reason.

They don't want to tie themselves down with a releasedate and then have to rush the job.

There are some thoughts that it would be done in....

... a few weeks (but that's not happening, trust me)

... six months (highly unlikely)

... a year (which would be Q4 of 2011) - the far more likely alternative

... more than a year (makes little sense, since building anticipation this far in advance is detrimental to sales)

I suggest you watch the video below of one of the senior staff at Areanet getting asked this question and listen to WHY he says "when it is ready".

no longer yet. the activity is presently in closed beta. they have had a super beta press adventure presently, and the varied press individuals who participated would be allowed to speak approximately their adventure on February 20. all of us recognize that ArenaNet would have beta events (weekends) in March and April, and human beings would be waiting to enroll for those events (the variety of spots in each and each adventure remains constrained; there will be no 'open beta' in the classic experience). After that, relying on the end results of those beta checks, ArenaNet will initiate making plans for the activity's launch. So i might assume it around June on the earliest, in all likelihood later.

There is not currently an official release date for Guild Wars 2.
