Two questions about ice skating?

first: I'm going ice skating with my friends tomorrow at an indoor rink, and I'm not sure what to wear?

second: I'm absolutely horrible at skating, the last time I went I was about 7 and I slipped and sprained my ankle. Any tips?

Your help would be greatly appreciated :)

You should get a nice pair of warm sweats, NOT jeans (wet jeans are the worst!). Also, you should wear a warm shirt and a fleece, or whatever kind of jacket, or a warm sweater. There will be snow on the ice so you could get a little wet, but if they just resurfaced the ice, it could be a little wet so wait til it dries or avoid the wet spots. You might also want a hat and scarf and you should deffinatly wear mittens or gloves.

Next: make sure your skates are nice and tight around the ankle and just take it easy. Hold onto the boards if you think it's nesicarry, better safe than sorry. Also, the worst thing you can do is have a wobbly core. If you do, it will make it easy to get off balance and fall.

    Good luck!

Well it's pretty chilly at indoor rinks, so I would suggest jeans, and either a sweater or t-shirt with a jacket. Also BE SURE to wear long socks or else the skates will be very uncomfortable. It doesn't take that long to catch on, but you can hold on to the rail the first few times around until you get the hang of it. Have fun!

im not a pro skater or anything but ive gone more than once.

wear some waterproof sweats if you have them, and of course a jacket (waterproof would be good in case you fall, dont want to be wet all day)

To avoid falling, make sure your skates are laced up nice and tight so you can balance easier. and skate with a buddy in case you fall and need help.

    good luck :)!

    1) I'm a figure skater so I can help you! Well, to be very comfy, wear leggings or loose fitting pants, no jeans. Wear gloves. To be quite honest, I don't like wearing a jacket, I only wear a sweatshirt, pants, gloves, and my skates, it's hard wearing a jacket when I'm doing a spin or something so it's totally up to you!

    2) Just have fun! Use the wall, and you will be fine. If you fall, laugh it off, and skate, skate skate! Have fun

Wear yoga pants and knee socks on the bottom, tights if you really need them. Wear a t shirt or long sleeve shirt on top with a northface or just regular sweatshirt over it. I am a figure skater and usually i just wear tights with shorts and a tank top with a sweatshirt over it. I cant tell you how many times i have seen girls there in the summer wearing shorty shorts. its soooo stupid!! and dont wear jeans, you probably will fall and jeans will get wet, but yoga pants would be fine.

i see people at the rink who arent good allllll the time. just go slow and hold on to the wall. dont worry to much about it.

okay, i'll try to make it short and sweet:)

rinks are quite cold, so you migth want to wear long pants to keep warm and to protect your legs in case you fall(so it wouldn't be painful). you can wear any t-shirt and a jacket over:)

    now for the skating part.

walk around the rubber mat around the ice. then, you can take small baby footsteps when on the ice just like you walking but just on a much slippery surface (holding on to the outside railing can help you build more confidence) :P

ohh, try not to look down as much as possible or you will tend to fall. i'm sure you wouldn't want to sprain your ankle again.

okay, after you got that, try some forward swizzles and a one foot glide, lifting one feet just slightly of the ice. check youtube videos:) type how to do forward swizzles or how to do one foot glide.

important! learning how to get up from the ice after you fall: kneel on one knee with the other still on the ice. press the kneeling knee with your hand. there!:) your up!:)

hope i helped!!:) happy skating! once you get the hand of it, you will definitely feel a sense of accomplishment and LOVE ice skating!!:)
