I feed my dogs raw food and raw meaty bones. They also get appropriate left overs from our meals, usually cooked vegies. As long as you feed the table scraps in the dog's food bowls they won't beg at the table.

My dogs are almost 7yo and 5 1/2 yo and the breed is notorious for having bad teeth. They have perfect teeth and healthy gums and have never needed a dental. The raw meaty bones are better than any tooth brush.

ADD: Anita as a vet tech you should know that it's fatty food that causes pancreatitis in some, not all dogs. Not intelligent adding of table food such as vegies to the dogs diet.

Most human foods are too rich. And it teaches them to Beg.

Of course not, actually poop from table scraps smells nicer than from dog food..plus it saves you money and it wouldn't lose appetite than dog food, I recommend you to check what you feed him like too hard/sharp bones, but it's all good, doggie breath is just the bad doggie scrap effect..LOL

    Feeding scarps?

Depends on your dog and what you are giving them.

I used to have a border collie / new zelend something or other, she was lovley, best dog ever, so calm never hurt a fly, never neaded a lead.

We used to be able to feed her, and sometimes our cats too, scarps.

But then again, she never came up and tried to beg for our food or anything so it was okay./

With some dogs, like the dog I have now, if you feed them table scarps it will only encourage them to try and steal your food, so in that perspective it is a bad idea.

Also, there are quite a few things not that everyone knows are really poisinus for dogs, it's not just chocolate. Turkey and i think maybe ham, there's loads, you need to google maybe every food that is posinus to a dog before you give them anything else. If they don't throw it back up they could die.

My ACD, Cody, eats a prey model raw diet.

I think the main issue here is over feeding and feeding the wrong types. A piece of chicken here and there isn't gonna be bad but a few Pringles is not recommended. lol The main reason "people" food is bad for them is that so much these days is processed and filled with preservatives. If it is home cooked and good quality, every now and then isn't a big deal. And obviously just brush up on the types of foods dogs are allergic to and can kill them.

If you watch what you give them and don't do it from the table it

won't hurt. Put it in their bowls or feed when you're doing the

kitchen clean up after your meal and they wont get rude around

    the table

as long as you are aware of what kinds of human foods are dangerous to feed your dog and what kinds are appropriate and you are willing to accept that you're building a hard-to-break begging habit, it's not a bad thing. It's a matter of personal preference.

    Hi Mary,

It isn't a good idea to feed dogs scraps from the table, but I'm sure we all do it from time to time. I have shih tzu, a breed that is well known for liking our food more than its own. The answer is do everything in moderation when it comes to feeding. And no chocolate as this can be a killer.

    Best Wishes

    Michael
