One of the key elements would be reality vs. perception of reality. Like the old woman in the care home who they have a big celebration party for and then the doctors euthanize her. It's horrible - that's when the veil of innocence is ripped off the main character's eyes (sorry, I forget his name). This society that they live in is made to seem to be all happy and joyeus and advanced, when in reality it's brutal, unforgiving and cold.

some key elemnents you would want to mention are
-release
-no color
-no music
-waether/ climate control
- they pick everything from what you eat to who you marry
