Why do humans have a desire for God?

Considering that a small fraction of the earths population do not believe in a god .... Why do humans have a desire for God?

Wouldn't it be that if someone thought everyone else is "deluded" or "brainwashed" it would cast suspicions on their point of view in any other aspect of life?

One has to wonder, if there's no benefit to thinking there's something "bigger than us", why has the concept endured for so long?

Oh, I know the boilerplate atheist responses, but, really. We've put people on the moon. People a mere 30 years or so in the past would marvel at our present technology. Yet, here we sit, supposedly fettered to a concept that should be found only in the most primitive of people.

And we haven't licked it yet?

Perhaps there's something else to it.

The desire to know God is in part the fact there is a God..........It's in everyone, he put it there.

Now some my want to deny it being a God, but it doesn't change his desires for wanting to know.

There is not one of us at some point or another that doesn't come to wondering, why, where, how, who am I and who are they. You search for the source of you being until your mind can perceive back no further. The final destiny of all things is God, most our problem is understanding him or that and we use that for our excuse to deny he exist.

Because our Spirit recognize the truth that we all will ultimately choose whether to spend eternity with God or live lonely suffering in Hell for eternity.

Our desire comes from God/Source...for He is our original state of Being, the union we naturally long for. As He desires us, His perfect creations, so we desire to be one with Him, and are thus drawn back to Him.

This may require a journey over time of increasing awareness, which will culminate in awakening from this dream of separation. Those who are not ready, those who are still lost in the dream, do not experience this desire at this time. Their desire to unite with God will increase as they fall away from the ego's voice that reinforces separation consciousness.

A desire for God is part of our design. Here's how it work: God designs us with freedom and rationality, which implies we seek reasons for what we do. One of the things we do continually is to say people should do this or that (i.e., refrain from genocide, or save the rain forest, or protect children from molestation).

However, whenever we say people should do something we imply that there is an objective moral authority, independent of any person's opinion (who may say "We need to get rid of the Jews" or "the rain forest is useless").

Claims that theists are "brainwashed" depend on evidence that the person was coerced and tortured into belief. In free countries, that almost never happens.

    Cheers,

Humans do not have a desire for god, humans have a desire to live and since we are self aware we invent the concept of an afterlife.

One more thing, if humans had a desire for god then that would mean that it would be easy to believe that fairy tale and not question it. Meaning that since the bible is very okay with slavery, and poisoning women on the say so of a man: then we would still be doing that.

God is the very Matrix of this Universe, Everything is part of it Sun Rise, Moon at Night, Ocean Waves and so on...

Humans divided this Matrix by Religion, Name, Shapes, Philosophies and so on

Our Brain will show what our Heart wants, no matter what or how hard you try Because the Media, Advertisement, Movies, Entertainment hypnotized us....

All Major Religious books have Same beginning, same course of life and at the end there will be a Armageddon or Kalyuga or Qiyamah...

Then Happy life forever and ever... Paradise or Sathyuga or Jannah.

This is the best Human could think of. Might be the Years when they were penned down differs but human thought is capable of only so much because we are part of this Very Matrix we call as God.

    Humans are self-aware.

By the age of 1-2, humans can look in the mirror and recognize themselves... not many species can do this.

Humans then can predict that one day, their consciousness will die, and they start to have anxiety, because no one likes death.

Humans needed some sort of being to save them from death, to live on forever. That idea is GOD.
