Egypt has an explosive start to 2011 (Literally)?

From what I've heard there was a massive group car bombing outside Al Montazah Church in Alexandria just at midnight. Can anyone from Alexandria let us know what's happening? Any casualties? :(

Update:

Apparently there have been many casualties including as of now 10 deaths :(

What a horrible way to start the year for the families affected, may they RIP

Many Christians don't want to understand that it's not us doing it ..

Our religion didn't order us to do things like that ..el 3aks tamaman ba2a,

Anyone in his right mind knows that the Mossad/Israel is after these repeated incidents ...

Anybody with a little bit of brains in his head and knows the location of the accident will not only point a finger at Israel... he'll point ALL TEN FINGERS

since when could any Egyptian be involved in an operation with this style and magnitude?

the location was perfectly chosen to create a confrontation (I know what the place looks like) and there are hundreds of churches that are easier targets.. but this one is very close to a mosque

the question is.. who will benifit from this accident in Egypt??? political party?? bullsh*t.. they are under strict control.. who else is capable of doing this??

I guess the answer lies clearly that it's a retaliation of capturing the Mossad network of Tarek Abdul Aziz and the exposure of information concerning Egypt, Syria and Lebanon

  • It's horrible way to start a new year. According to CNN at least 7 people have been killed.

No matter how evil Israel is I don't think it is right that some of us always point fingers at Israel first.

We have to face that even some of us seem to become more and more radical in their thinking.

Their should be a better control on what is being preached in the mosque because not everyone should be given the authority to teach. Constant hate speech can lead to physical violence.

The blast was in the street between the Church and the Mosque but near to the Church more. The first victim who was very near and turned to peaces was a Muslim poor man who sells the holy book [Quraan] in front of the mosque. Deaths and casualties are from Christians and Muslims. It's quite clear that's coming from an enemy of both religions and an old enemy of Egypt. It's silly that some young guys were upset and throw stones on the mosque and insured others in the street, That makes the enemy think about repeating the game. It's silly if Egyptians didn't understand who is attacking and who is terrorizing now. I don't have doubts that we will stand together hand in hand the same like always in hard times.

Anyone who seriously believes that this was anything but religious persecution also believes in the tooth fairy ! It is all just a part of the process of turning the screws a little tighter in order to squeeze minorities out...

In this case it appears that it's the Coptic Church that has been targeted ...what's next ?

Several people died early on Saturday in an attack on a Christian church in Alexandria, a city in northern Egypt.

The number of victims was not immediately known, but witnesses said there were a number of wounded also, and ambulances had started to arrive at the scene of the explosion.

The attack, apparently caused by a car bomb, took place as the faithful left the church in the Sidi Bechr district at around half past midnight on New Year's Day. Witnesses said a burnt-out car was in front of the entrance to the church.

A car exploded in front of a church in Alexandria, killing 11 people and injuring 17.

Security sources confirmed to Al-Masry Al-Youm having received 11 dead bodies from the site of the incident which happened in front of the St. Mark and St. Peter's Church in Sidi Bishr.

Police cordoned the area of the attack.

At the church site, Muslims and Christians started rioting. Eyewitnesses say that some Christians were attempting to burn a nearby mosque.

Haytham Yehia, an eyewitness at the site of the bombings said that a group of Copts was chanting “we will protect the cross”, while a group of Muslims was shouting “God is Great.” He added that the sound of the bombing was so strong that it shook the nearby building where he lives.

Sectarian violence erupted in Alexandria in April 2006 in the same area, following the death of Nushi Girgis, who was stabbed at the St. Mark and St. Peter’s Church in Sidi Bishr, during a series of simultaneous attacks on three Alexandrian churches.

The bombings took place after a number of radicals associated with al-Qaeda threatened to heighten attacks against Christians during the Christmas season.

In its most recent threat, the Organization of the State of Iraq, a local branch of al-Qaeda, warned Iraqi Christians of more attacks if they do not pressure the Egyptian Christian Church to release a group of women who were allegedly detained by the church after converting to Islam.

It truly is upsetting... I mean seriously? Leave the Christians alone! What happened to freedom of religion??? This is ridicoulous!! It's 2011! Have a freaking heart! I can't imagine what the families of these martyrs are going through.... God bless them <3
