Araucanas lay blue eggs, other chooks lay brown, beige or white eggs. A friend set some eggs that were laid by an araucana that had mated with a barnevelde rooster. Barneveldes lay brown eggs. The chickens that hatched lay green eggs and have passed this on to their offspring. The eggs come in greens from a lovely pale green to olive green.

The colour of the shell makes no difference to the flavour or appearance of the egg inside.

The same way a robin can lay a blue egg. There are different breeds of chickens and one breed, the Auricana, lays bluish green eggs.

That's no ordinary chicken.....that's the Easter Chicken...once a year these Easter chickens get together and help cousin Bunny.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck and best wishes.
