Unfortunately, there really is no good substitute for avocado. You pretty much have to decide whether you want to come closest to the flavor or to the texture. Either way, you have to stretch your imagination a bit in order to call the end result guacamole.

That said, an OK substitute is chayote. (Not as creamy or flavorful, but OK, especially if your grocery store carries avocado dressing to supplement it.) But if your local grocery store doesn't carry avocados I can't see it carrying chayote.

If you like peas, you can make a guacamole-looking dip by whizzing a couple of cans of baby peas through the blender. Reserve some to mash lightly and stir in later for added texture. You can add all the other stuff that goes into guac, plus some roasted red pepper. But of course, you have to like peas.

Check this out for other suggestions (which I have not tried):

But honestly, I suggest that you make something else entirely. Try making hummus. You can always order tahini off the web.

guacamole IS avocado!! for now you just have to do without.

make a dip from just veggies, the tomato, peppers, onions, etc make a great dip. You could add tofu to it?? I am not at all sure how to do that, but if you are lactose intolerant you must learn.

Avocado Bread Ingredients 2 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 cup sugar 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 large egg 1/2 cup mashed avocado (1 medium avocado) 1/2 cup buttermilk 1/2 cup chopped pecans Instructions Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Generously grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan. Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk to blend thoroughly. In a separate bowl, beat together the egg and avocado. Stir in the buttermilk. Add to the dry ingredients and blend well. Stir in the pecans. Pour into the prepared pan and bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean. Yield: 1 loaf.

Guacamole is a avocado based dip..

you don't have guacamole without the avocado :/

    Avacado is guacamole's base.

Some alternatives: ranch dressing, hummus (made from chickpeas and doesn't have cheese). Yogurt/cheese/sour-cream/cream-cheese-based dips wouldn't work for you because of the lactose intolerance.

No such thing. If it doesn't have avocado, it is not guacamole..
