Does anyone know what could be causing my memory loss?

I have lots of trouble with my memory. I will be in mid sentence and forget what I was going to say then take several seconds to remember. This also happens when I am walking into a room, I'll step foot in the room, then forget why I made the trip. I'm not sure if I have a problem with long term memory but it is very difficult for me to remember names. Most of the time I can remember things later, usually by seeing an object to remind me why I went into the room or if someone says the persons name I can remember who it is. I am trying to figure out why I have this trouble. I know that reduced blood flow in the brain can reduce memory. My family has a history of heart disease and my whole family has trouble with memory. I also have a long history of depression. I know depression has an affect on depression but I'm not sure about the family history possibility. I also have a history of head injuries. I was dropped on my head as a baby and fell out of my bunk bed as a kid. My mom said that I did not act any different after falling out of the bunk so she does not think I have brain damage but I can see the effects being less visible as a baby. Does anyone have any ideas about what has caused my memory trouble?

Update:

I do have ADD as well. I should have probably mentioned that beforehand.

This could be a combination of physcial injuries coupled with depression. Do you always retain good historical memory, i.e., long ago events? Or do those get foggy then get clear as well? I'd talk to a doc. They'll likely order an EEG or another scan to check for physical problems. If you mention depression, they can assess you for that as you currently are. They can ask if these losses are becuase of situation (social anxiety?), attentional problems (ADHD?) or other related causes.

Hey, I'm Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your short term memory...I know how much this can stink. I also have a long history for depression>>>but have refused all meds. Sure that can affect memory as can, diet and blood sugar levels (Blood Test). ALZHEIMERS RUN IN MY RUN IN MY FAMILY AS WELL BUT TRY NOT TO ASSUME...That's what I did and it has a mistake...Recently through a doctors hunch AND a Simple Blood Test I found out my hormone level were out of whack. I was sent to have a MRI and found out I have Pituitary Tumor - NON-CANCEROUS! I in 3 people are found to have issue durring post mortums exams, but 3 in 100 find out while living. It Doesnt usually kill you, it just makes you miserable (Headaches, neckaches, Slow reactions, confusion, heart issues can develop, as well as sex problem/menstral issues...depenping on the hormone the is secreted. Blood Test...Blood Test...Blood Tests...

Ask to be tested for.. Blood Sugar Issues, TSH, FSH, HGH, ACTH, LIN, LH, MSH & Maybe even Prolatin. Good Luck and best Wishes my friend. Sue
