Why is smoking so discouraged?
I went through a time where I would have an occasional cigar and I enjoyed the time of smoking them (only one a week). I ended up going to the doctor and they put on my health record that I was a smoker and I would have had to pay the same premium of a chain smoker as far as I could tell. One country where a huge population smokes made a major step to discourage it. If someone finds out that a person smokes they might get a lecture about how it's so bad for them. I understand keeping kids from smoking but even smoking in public, if someone is standing outside a gas station people aren't going to inhale nearly as many toxins as we breathe on a regular basis from the air around us. A car makes so much carbon monoxide that it can't be running inside a garage or it could be fatal. Why is smoking so discouraged if it is the smokers choice to live the life style and to enjoy smoking? I really am curious to see what people will say.
4 AnswersSociology9 years agoCan I get a pistol after an expunged domestic violence misdemeanor in Michigan?
I had a situation several years ago where I was convicted of domestic violence which was a misdemeanor charge. After the fact, I went to counseling and it was expunged. I never was in any trouble before or after this situation. Am I now legally allowed to purchase a handgun or could there still things that need to be settled?
3 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police10 years agoCould I get in trouble for harassment?
I thought I was texting a friend on Google Voice but turns out it was a complete stranger who was actually very rude and was offended that I even thought he could be the guy I was trying to get a hold of. He kept telling me to not text him back but I was trying to figure out the situation and wasn't really thinking. After I confirmed that it wasn't the right guy I apologized but he was even more rude. than before. I sent him a text back expressing my disgust then I ended up looking his number on Google. He owns a business with that number so I left a review about the situation with a one star rating then sent him another text telling him to look up his business. I know this was a bad idea and if I could, I would take back that last text. My biggest concern is if he could file a report with the police and I could get into trouble with the law. Could I get in trouble and what should I do?
3 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police10 years agoIs there any way to have a girl see me as more than a "brother?"?
I have a girl that I kind of like but I don't think she sees me as a potential date as of now. I don't want to change her and I don't want to "get her to like me," I just want to know if there is anything I can do different with my interaction with her and maybe it will change her perspective from brother to possible date. She does not know I like her right now and I think it would be best that I don't tell her right now.
5 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoHow can I make a circuit that delays for more than a minute?
I want to make a timer circuit that activates an LED. I want to set the delay for 1-5 minutes and then make the LED flash. I am just starting to learn about electronics so please keep the solution simple and cheep. Thanks.
7 AnswersEngineering1 decade agoWhy won't my circuit work?
I have been trying to get an LED to blink using a 47 uf 50v capacitor, 33 ohm resistor and an LED. My power supply is a battery charger rated at 12 volts and 1000 mA. The LED I took out of an old circuit so I don't know the specs on it. The problem is that I have not even gotten the the LED to light up much less blink. I have hooked the whole thing up in series and I tried putting the capacitor in parallel with the resistor and LED (resistor and LED in series) and have changed the polarity in the circuit and ensured everything is put in right without success. What am I doing wrong? I bought a new LED but I don't want to use it unless I know the circuit will work. It's rated at 1.7v and 20 mA. Thank you very much for your time and have a great day.
2 AnswersEngineering1 decade agoDoes anyone know what could be causing my memory loss?
I have lots of trouble with my memory. I will be in mid sentence and forget what I was going to say then take several seconds to remember. This also happens when I am walking into a room, I'll step foot in the room, then forget why I made the trip. I'm not sure if I have a problem with long term memory but it is very difficult for me to remember names. Most of the time I can remember things later, usually by seeing an object to remind me why I went into the room or if someone says the persons name I can remember who it is. I am trying to figure out why I have this trouble. I know that reduced blood flow in the brain can reduce memory. My family has a history of heart disease and my whole family has trouble with memory. I also have a long history of depression. I know depression has an affect on depression but I'm not sure about the family history possibility. I also have a history of head injuries. I was dropped on my head as a baby and fell out of my bunk bed as a kid. My mom said that I did not act any different after falling out of the bunk so she does not think I have brain damage but I can see the effects being less visible as a baby. Does anyone have any ideas about what has caused my memory trouble?
4 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoCan you help me solve a family mystery?
In the 1800s my ancestor fled from Germany to the United States. He kept his origins a secret from his family though he kept getting letters from his sister with the royal seal on them. I want to know everything I can about this German Duke and especially what might have caused him to flee Germany. He was part Jewish but this happened long before the holocaust. I have a website that I use to help gather information and though I don't have much to post at the moment you may be able to find more info on the topic. www.lostduke.weebly.com. We thought he changed his name to Gramer when he came to the US but it could also be Grier. Any information you can provide would be very helpful including German history. Thank you very much for your time and have a great day.
1 AnswerRoyalty1 decade agoWhat can I do to fix my faith?
I have grown up in a christian home but have had some huge struggles with my faith. My back ground was in one of the churches that believes in speaking in tongues and that you will be blessed if you give to the offering ect. I have found all of this to not be true and have had so many disappointments. These churches have had a large emphasis on the supernatural and in my opinion, have abused their role as a Christ centered church. All of this has had a lasting impact on me and now I question the very power of God. I have been looking for another church for a few months now but I'm not sure if that can even help me with this. I read my Bible every day yet I really don't think it has had any impact on the situation. I feel myself slipping into a direction that I don't want to go. What can I do to get myself back on the right track? Please keep all answers respectful. Also everyone that believe in Christ, please keep me in your prayers.
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow do I unlock my Motorola W315 which does not have a SIM card?
I have an old cell phone that I want to install third party apps on but I have not had much luck on unlocking it. The phone does not have a place for a SIM card so most of the resources I have found are not compatible. I would much rather not install a program in order to unlock the phone but I might consider a free program if you have already tried it. Please let me know how long you have used a phone after unlocking the phone if you refer to a service like this and what your experience with it has been. Thank you for your answers.
2 AnswersCell Phones & Plans1 decade agotrouble breathing... suggestions?
I have had trouble breathing for about a week now. I feel like I need to take deeper breaths than normal. I have run with this trouble and it seems almost like I can breathe better shortly after running which I think is weird. Some times I take many deep breaths and I feel light headed when I do. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be or any resources that I could go to to find out what it could be? thanks

I have an old 1gigabite flash drive and I'm wanting to use it to run linux off of. It has plenty of memory on it still and I would like to use it as kind of a portable computer that I can use on different desktops and maybe laptops. I went to download it and found that there are many versions, which one should I use?
6 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoHow do I deal with a debt collector with the wrong number?
My family has had a dept collector calling us for a few years now, but they have been asking for Cheryl, who doesn't live at our residence. We think they got our number from the phone book which is listed as S [Last name]. I think the dept collectors company name is something like Walpof and Abelson. We have done research on them only to find that they are known to switch the names on the dept to the person they were calling. For this reason we have just let them call and let the phone ring. Recently we have had another debt collector asking for Steve. Does anyone think someone is putting our number on stuff that they don't want to pay for? Could the dept collector slap charges on us for holding them in the air for so long? How should we deal with these guys? Sorry for the long question. Thank you so much to anyone who answers my post.
