What version of linux should I install on my flash drive?

I have an old 1gigabite flash drive and I'm wanting to use it to run linux off of. It has plenty of memory on it still and I would like to use it as kind of a portable computer that I can use on different desktops and maybe laptops. I went to download it and found that there are many versions, which one should I use?

1 gig is only good for, small distributions, like ubuntu or fedora, i suggest fedora, or if you want the looks of windows 7 kde is much better, which is built into kubuntu

DSL linux is your best bet. it is the smallest and fast version i know of. its a little more command line heavy so for a new user it might take some getting used to. you might want to try ubuntu linux, but i'm not sure how much memory it needs. but the thing about linux is... if you don't like one version, just delete it and try another.. you will be out no money

OS's can't be run on USB drives, the applying mandatory to run a USB connection isn't available at BIOS component to have the skill as properly from the flash rigidity. in case you commit to objective this, purchase a miles much less high priced rigidity and set up it on your kit and set up Linux on it, or purchase some ingredient like partition magic and create a clean partition to run Linux.

For a flash drive, I recommend Slax or Puppy Linux.

Both allow you to save your session and make great portable operating systems.

DSL (DamnSmallLinux) is one of the smallest. Knoppix may also work.
