Can I get a pistol after an expunged domestic violence misdemeanor in Michigan?

I had a situation several years ago where I was convicted of domestic violence which was a misdemeanor charge. After the fact, I went to counseling and it was expunged. I never was in any trouble before or after this situation. Am I now legally allowed to purchase a handgun or could there still things that need to be settled?

Update:

This was not a felony

    The short answer is no.

Unless you have your rights restored by the court or by the governor, you are still a convicted violent criminal.

All the expungemnt did was to seal the record so that only select court house employees could see it. The crime did not go away, nor did the record of the arrest, the jail time, or the newspaper accounts.

You are required to truthfully answer the Michigan firearms purchase form which askes if you have been convicted of a violent crime. the truthful answer to that question is yes.

True not a felony BUT treated as one as far as gun rights go. So expungment just removes the conviction from official public Record.

Still, expungment does no remove the gun restriction. Just like a felon have to be found not guilty on an appeal or get a governor's pardon to restore rights.
