In the book North and South, why do they move from Helstone to Milton?

It's the only bit of the book I'm a bit confused about, help anyone?

Margaret's father has a crisis of faith. He still considers himself a religious man, but he has issues with the constraints being placed on him and other members of the church (such as having to declare publicly, a loyalty). His crisis is with the institution, not the faith.

As such, he resigns from the Church and thereby they cannot live in Helstone any longer, as it is the property of the church. So they move to Milton.
