Would a processor upgrade be worth it in a all-in-one pc?

I'm aware of the overall limitations a all in one presents ( namely a un-upgradable video card ), but I was wondering if a processor upgrade would be worth the trouble.

The Rig I got has 4 gb of ram on a Amd Athlon X2 2.70 Ghz processor.

I use the computer for pretty general use...music..some movies, but I do play games off and on and given the video card is pretty much static...is it worth upgrading the processor to get more out of the games i play ( since thats the only area somewhat lacking ).

Nah... The CPU impact is much less than the GPU for gaming. The 2.7Ghz Athlon X2 is decent enough and certainly won't bottleneck whatever built-in GPU you've got.

I'd leave it alone, especially being unfamiliar with whatever CPU cooling apparatus they've managed to squeeze into the all-in-one chassis. It might be a real hassle to get it back on securely.

No. Don't waste your time. If you don't break 1 or more circuits you'll likely throw a hotter chip in there than the layout of the components and air flow will gracefully handle.

If you're most worried about playing games then you need to max out your RAM, since your system is sharing it with your on-board video. Definitely need to know the CPU/socket type though. If it's the X64 architecture, you're screwed. If it's the K10 architecture, AM2+ or AM3 socket, those memory controllers can handle 8GB of RAM and now you have a decent little system.

I think you would not see a huge improvement in games with a CPU upgrade. I recommend that you upgrade to a normal desktop system and get a better video card.

You people manage to write a chapter for a question but ALWAYS leave out the most critical information, MAKE AND MODEL!

if you have never done it before make sure you do the research and get the right socket type for your motherboard

you will also need some thermal grease to change a CPU chip the grease will transfer the heat from the CPU to the heat sink without it your CPU will overheat
