try 'blue trane' but dont forsake the many beautiful boxed sets.

i have got my hands on the 'fearless leader' 5 cd set, thelonius monk with john voltrane 'the complete reverside recordings' 2 cd set, the classic quartet complete impulse studio recordings 8 cd set, and the impulse albums volume one 5 cd set, and volume 2 5 cd set.

too much coltrane? no way.....

My trumpet playing boyfriend loves "Complete Africa / Brass Sessions" by John Coltrane and also likes King Crimson!!

'my favorite things' is, funny enough, my favorite coltrane album. that's got some great modal laid-back grooves on it, highly recommended. other popular coltrane works include 'giant steps,' 'a love supreme,' and 'blue train'

the terrific Blues Album ... Ever! (2 CD w/ super blues songs) try Classical. exceptionally Violins. Schubert: The final 4 Quartets ( The Least Distracting For Me) Moby: hotel is likewise superb (sounds like turning on the television, do not could care what does it say)

I would start with "My favorite things" (one of the first jazz album i have listened to) and then aim for the best : "A love supreme".

GIANT STEPS! all the miles stuff, avoid OM, , and the masterpiece that is , A LOVE SUPREME! the ballads album is cool also. indulge..
