Do you have a system restore disc? You could try that.

Otherwise, take it to a computer repair shop. It could be a virus or it could be that the motherboard is going out. If it is the motherboard, then forget anything you had on the computer.

Try booting a live linux CD

You will have to be patient because booting from a cd is slow but it will show if the fault is hardware or windows.

If you can boot linux, you can also copy all your files onto a USB stick

Even if the laptop is dead (and drive is OK) it is pretty easy to stick the drive in another machine or docking station and recover your pictures
