2011 ford fiesta sometimes won't go into reverse?

I have only had the car for about 3 months and ever so often when i go to back out of my drive way my car won't go into reverse. Also when i go to start my car (mostly in the mornings) It sounds like it is choking when it is turning over but it always starts...I'm going to have it looked at sometime this week but I am really curious at what could be the problem..any ideas?

Update:

Budgreen man i'd hate to be associated with you.You can't answer a simple question . Didn't asked to be insulted or wanted to be asked why i bought a Ford...just wanted to know what was wrong with my car. I remember why i stopped coming on yahoo answers in the first place. I DID SAY I WAS TAKING IT IN!!!!

My word of advice is to be tasteful and tactful next time when answering a question.

Update 2:

Hey Joseph thanks for really answering ( and to everyone else that put thought into there answer)my question my car is an automatic and forgive me for not stating that above..but what you said about the clutch in the second paragraph made alot of sense and i will bring it up when i bring my car in. Thanks!

There are other people with this problem who have had the transmission replaced multiple times, people said it was a problem with the new dual clutch system, and one account of a battery problem and that due to it the transmission "forgets" how to shift or "forgets" what gear it is in...

It is only a problem with the dual-clutch systems in the automatics, where they lag significantly while it "thinks" about what to do. This problem doesn't exist in the single-clutch manuals.

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion and I notice this lag while driving it, so if I ever needed some quick gas, I won't receive it for 1-2 seconds, which is life or death in certain situations. I have never had the problem with getting into gear though beyond a little lag shifting into gear sometimes.

So from my experience with this new dual-clutch system, and the accounts I have read, it is a problem with this clutch and not the transmission. So Ford designed it to get better gas mileage, but it is just causing problems.

I don't have the engine struggling to start up though, but in the morning it could be that it is cold and engines struggle to start when it is freezing outside. So that could be the problem there. If it continues in the summer or after it is warmed up then it's not the weather it is the engine.

So when you take it in bring up the dual-clutch problems everyone is having with their automatic transmissions. See if they do something about it. This is about all the info I have on this issue right now, and I can't offer better advice on what to do unless I was there and had a look at the car and was able to speak with the dealer/maintenance personnel/Ford.

I have learned a way to reduce this lag to nothing, and that is by shutting off traction control. Whenever I turn that off I have no lag from stopping or gassing it quickly. So it may also be a software issue with the traction control system.

So it might be a conflict with the traction control system and the dual-clutch, but on that it is just my speculation as to what may be the problem.

I hope this helps, if not then I am sorry about this long answer and wasting your time reading it.

Devin It is not worn out if she's only had it for 3 months and it's a new car, that happens after a year or so of really bad shifting.

Eduardo... you're a complete idiot and if you want to claim that then what about the Toyota braking problem? Or Lancia for their many problems. Or Dodge Chrysler for their town and country pile of crap. As for a quote from a car mechanic who has worked on all kinds of cars. "All vehicles have problems with them (Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, Honda, Ford, etc....)." Once in a while everyone makes a mistake. So get out of the '80s and '90s bullshit and realize that American auto manufacturers have cracked down on quality issues that they had and Foreign motors are now struggling to keep up.

Mr. Lawyer, just go over to GM for their dexcool problem and file another lawsuit on them for that when the people fail to change their coolant cause they are lazy and shouldn't own the car if they're not going to take care of it. Or to Toyota and get them again for their brakes.

And Budgreen, quit being a dick

Source(s): I have looked into it seeing as I own a 2010 Ford Fusion with an automatic and am just looking at any problems that may arise with my vehicle that I want to be aware of.

    Is it a manual transmission?

If it won't go into reverse, put it in first gear, let the clutch out to creep forward a little bit, then it should go into reverse.

I've had to do this from time to time with every manual trans car I've ever owned.

Not to mention 18wheelers I've driven.

If it's automatic try pressing down on the brake pedal harder when trying to shift into reverse.

If it still doesn't work take it back to the dealer for a fix.

My question to you is... WHY DO YOU DRIVE A FORD FIESTA!?

but seriously take it to ford, and tell them to have a look see. depending on where you bought it from this could be a lawsuit, because with some car problems your safety can be involved! best wishes

Maybe the gearbox is wore down by missed shifts or if you have been shifting without the clutch and it will wear it down

It's caused by cheap ford parts. take it back to the dealer to have it repaired free of charge

take it to the dealership, it's under warranty...

since apparently you don't read any form of paperwork when you buy things I have a nice bridge to sell you that you can drive on.
