ramadan: what does La illaha illa Allah mean?

alsalamu alaykum

What does the shahada mean. We all use it all the time but do we actually know what it really mean?

I know most of us translate it ( there is no God except Allah) but this is not what I am asking. I am asking its meaning to you.

the ulama' (scholars) say it means

no one is rightfully worshiped except Allah ( la ma'buda haq, illa Allah)

what does it mean to you

Update:

@Bailey Allah is the one and only God. He is the God of Muhammad, Moses, Abraham. Adam and Jesus. He is the God we Muslims, Jews and christians worship. The diffrence between Islam and christianity is that we dont associate partners with God. He is one and only he was not beggoton nor does he begit.

Allah is just an attribute to God. He have 99 attributes like The merciful and the just.

No muslims is muslim if he dont believe in Jesus. All muslims love jesus

Update 2:

Masha'Alla, thank you all for the beautiful answers

^ so basically you're christian :) I think he was asking us muslims

And La Illaha Illa Allah (to me) means that I cannot call upon anyone for godly worship or holiness besides Allah and I should know that unto Him I will return and He will be the only Judge of my deeds and my fate lies with Him.

    Assalamu'laikum Warahmatullahhhi Wabarakatuh.

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

    Dear Adam,

l really appreciate what you have had said. All are good.

The Religion of Islam is SIMPLE.

The religion of Islam is the Most Simple Religion. The Way of Life in Islam is the Most Simple. That's why during the Wafat (death) of Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) he have had six Dinars. Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him), his Mission was not to the Arabs alone. He was not sent for one age or clime, but "for all mankind to the end of the world."

It is made quite clear in the Holy Qur'an the Prophet Jesus (peace be on him) was sent only to the Children of Israel; he had no responsibility whatsoever towards any other nation or people, least of all the Europeans-the Anglo-Saxons and the Russians (Slavs and Teutonics).

Islam means "submitting oneself to God," is the name Muhammad (peace be upon him) gave to the faith of which he was the prophet, then "Shahadah"

Those who want to be MUSLIM must "Shahadah". That is Islam.

Later we perform the Prayers, the Fasting (those who are able), The Alms-Tax (Zakat [those who are able]) and Pilgrimage and its Rites (those who are able). Its only Shahadah and Compulsory Prayer is a must. Through God's mercy those unable to pray properly on account of sickness and fighting can pray while sitting or even with signs from the eyes signifying kneeling.

That shows the Religion of Islam is so simple.

    Wabillahhitaufiq Walhidayah Wassalamu'alaikum Warahmatullahhi Wabarakatuh.

i hear by declare that there is no God (illah) but Allah (Sabhana Wata Ala) and Muhammmad (Sall Allah Alah Wasalam) is his last prophet and messenger that is the meaning

that is what is means for me. but there are many other meanings

I say it when i make duah to ALlah SWT, when i ask ALlah SWT for help, when we see miricles of Allah SWT, when new people turn to Islam also say Allahu Akbar, it is a wonderful wonderful wonderful say it many many times when we remember Allah SWT, say it in our prayers, in our minds. declaraition words cant describe how powerful " La Illah illAllah Muhammadu Rasoul Allah is". its so much more then just words MashAllah

Muslims consnstantly ask for guidance and La illaha ill Allah Muhammadu Rasoul Allah is a great start

    Allahu Akbar

    Allahu Akbar

    Allahu Akbar

Bailey I'm sorry but obviously you don't know what God is. You are basically saying that God sent his son to die so people can be free of sin. The reason why people believe in Jesus is because people like to sin and they don't want to stop. Lets say Jesus was the son of God or God however you want to put it. How come nobody follows his teaching and be kind, and help the weak. If by accepting Jesus as god allows you to sin but you follow none of his teachings then there is something wrong here. Do some research please.

Wa alsykum salam. Shahada "ashadu ala ilah ha ilallah wa asyhadu anna muhammad dar rasulillah" means that I witness that there is no god (ilah),except Allah and Muhammad s.a.w is the rasool (messenger)of Allah. It means that we are not allowed to believe in another power except Allah who is only one ,no ally and no son and also no parents.La ilah ha ilallah should be beileved convincingly that there no God except Allah only.who should be worshipped. We should ask for help and protection and anothe supplication or duas to Allah only.Allah created this universe and Allah maintains, regulates and supervises it properly with all of its contents If we ask for help to another power we will have shirk sins which is unforgiveful.Allah has 99 good names or asmaul khusna as stated in the Qur'an. All muslims respect and love all prophets and rasools with their holy booksBut we know based on the Qur'an that old holy books had been changed so it had been replaced by Allah with the most perfect life guide for all humans in the form of Al Qur'an and hadith..

la illaha illa Allah (laa ilaha ill-Allaah) may be translated as "There is no god but Allah".

It is part of the shahada or profession of faith that a person makes when he or she submits to the Will of Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala (Allah, Glorified and Exalted) and becomes a Muslim (a word that means, "one who submits to the Will of Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala).

"Ash hadu an laa ilaha ill-Allaah, wahadu la sharika lah w ash-hadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa Rasuluh"

"I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that He has not associates (partners, equals or sons or daughters) and I bear witness that Muhammad (sallaahu 'alaihi wasallaam/blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) is His slaave and His messenger/prophet"

When one states this in full faith and knowledge of what one is doing at the time, he or she has become a Muslim.

May Allah, Subhanna wa Ta'ala, continue to guide you to the truth that is Islam for your salvation and for the benefit of others.

    As salaamu 'alaikym.

    LA ILAHA ILLALLAH

This expression is the most important one in Islam. It is the creed that every person has to say to be considered a Muslim. It is part of the first pillar of Islam. The meaning of which is: " There is no lord worthy of worship except Allah."

The second part of this first pillar is to say: "Muhammadun Rasul Allah," which means:"Muhammad is the messenger of Allah."
