I feel I would make a fair judge, because I have both systems and play on them both regularly.
Okay, here it goes:
The list of games coming out for the Playstation 3 this upcoming year FAR surpasses anything that Microsoft or the Xbox 360 plan to release. Now, I would love to give you a whole bunch of reasons to keep or sell, but that would suck in paragraph form. Let me give you some Pro's and Con's and then give you my ultimate decision.
XBOX 360 PRO'S:
- Online interaction is superb. Live party chats with multiple friends at a time, and the user interface gets updated rather often
- The current 360 only games out at the moment completely wipe the floor with (most) of the PS3's
- Microsoft just released Kinect. I tried it out over my cousin's, and it was pretty neat. Nothing I'd really own, but neat.
- Updates are usually fast, quick, and efficient
- Multiplatform gaming companies have been known to favor the 360 audience
- Cheaper than getting the PS3, not including online
- Much bigger community than the PS3
XBOX 360 CON'S:
- You must pay to play online, and this can really run up a bill storm.
- The party system is still not completely perfect. It lags a bit sometimes, and randomly kicks at some other times
- The whole "Microsoft Points" thing is kind of strange, instead of just giving you a flat-out price
- We all know this, the Xbox 360 population has been surveyed at around 35-45% children under the age of 18
- The RROD is still alive. Do not let anybody tell you it is not. I've gone through 3 of the new 360's, and I keep great care of them.
PS3 PRO'S:
- Free online service to use at any time.
- Great user interface with awesome customizable ways to make YOUR PS3, YOUR PS3.
- The lineup for this upcoming year for straight to PS3 games is looking FAR beyond the Xbox 360's
- Prices are laid out flat, without having to do the whole point math and buy out points
- Come with a built in hard drive that seems to load things off of it a good bit faster than the 360
- Plays Blu-Ray discs instead of the 360's VERY generic High Definition discs, so graphics tend to be crisper and cleaner
- Save money by not having to pay an online fee
- You do get the YELLOW LIGHT OF DEATH, but NOWHERE near as common as the RROD
PS3 CON'S
- Hacking is a big issue on the Playstation Network, and almost everyone can be vulnerable, sadly
- Connection does not seem to run as strong on the Playstation Network. I know it's about where the servers are for each game, but they all run off a basic network.
- More expensive initially that the Xbox 360
- The Hard Drives are built in, so they can not be transported like most 360 hard drives can be
- PS3 has been known to have bad framerate issues on a lot of their games
- Gaming companies do not favor the PS3 when it comes to programming their games or patches
ULTIMATE DECISION:
1. Keep the PS3
2. Stock up the money you would save from all of those Monthly Cards for the 360
3. Get up to around $200 - $250
4. Buy an Xbox 360 with an 80GB HDD
5. ???????
6. Profit!

i have all the whole Halo series and its overrated, but if you think u will b in the group that things its actually special then go for it but keep the PS3 just in case u change ur mind after, i have both consoles and prefer the PS3, then there is the Kinect, at the moment its a piece of junk that cost a lot, there wont be any good games for it until later this yr then it will go from junk to being a bit better and prob cost less and most likely fully hacked to work on the PC as well, 360 is nothing special, i its just a console for shooters, PS3 is for shooters and everything else, but i say get the 360 and give it a try, but i think u will want to keep both, u will only use the 360 for its exclusives in my opinion.
good luck with ur choice.

Basically, the PS3 sports better graphics. The XBOX has Halo. I think that's what the wars were about. Past that, they're both great consoles, slightly different controls... The XBOX does have a few good exclusive games. I have a 360, I really like it, and kinect does have some great potential (my advice, wait until they get the bugs out.) But don't go all in for the XBOX. Maybe play one at a friend's house or borrow one, just make sure you actually want it before you buy it.

Where does your brother live?
If you live in the same house or very nearby, then there's no reason you can't give him the PS3 get yourself a 360 and borrow the PS3 to play any exclusives that come out in the future. Hell, you could even play them with him for some good ol' sibling bonding.
Just out of interest, what games are you waiting on anyway? Unless they are PS3 exclusives then you shouldn't have a problem in any case since 9/10 games these days are multiplatform releases.
Like my list for the year so far: Gears 3, Elder Scrolls 5, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dragon Age 2 and Pokemon White... 1 DS title, 1 360 title and the rest I could get on either 360 or PS3 (although I will get them on 360 because I simply use my 360s far more than my poor, neglected PS3s these days. One of the main reasons: Live works better for especially playing multiplayer across servers since I live in Japan but play with alot of peeps back in the UK most of who have 360s. PSN being simply lags out on my in full on multiplayer when I try to do the same).

I've owned a 360 for 5 years now and I still enjoy it. I have played the PS3, and I found myself being lagged out of more games. I could care less what the 2011 lineup is except for 3 games: Homefront, Gears 3, and Tomb Raider if its released this year. I only got the RROD once and it was pure coincidence. But i'd say try out the 360 to get a feel for it. You might like it, might not.

I never liked the 360 simply because Halo seems to be the only game that seems desirable for it, and i hate Halo. I lean more towards ps3 for the games, consistent controller(coming from a ps2) and free online play, which is basically the deal breaker for me. If halo is all you want, get it for the PC if u can use those controls.
I also don't have any of those systems. All i have is a ps2.

in my opinion the ps3 is better... my step brother got a ps3 while i have my Xbox 360 and the 360 is far louder, As for games i don't know much about the playstation exclusives but xbox has games like gears of war (1,2, and soon 3!!) and also the left 4 dead series. Hope i helped!

ps 3 slim is better. Because its have more graphics and more free online games.
PS3 Slim Pros:
- More affordable $299 price;
- slimmer, more compact design with quieter operation;
- all games in high-definition; easy-to-use interface;
- doubles as a Blu-ray and upscaling DVD player;
- built-in Wi-Fi;
- HDMI output with 1080p support;
- built-in Web browser; free online gaming service.
Ps3 Slim Cons:
- Lacks backward support for PS2 games;
- no infrared port means non-Bluetooth universal remotes aren't compatible;
- online gaming, media, and commerce options still aren't as fully developed as Xbox Live, though they're getting better.
