Only people who have directly worked/trained with Brad Pattison please answer..?

I've noticed a lot of negativity when it comes to discussing Brad's methods, but I personally was trained by him and know for a fact that he NEVER uses any forms of abuse. Yes, I saw the video that looped the so called 'smacking' the dog in the face....which of course is blown way out of proportion by all the people who watched it and made ASSUMPTIONS. The technique he used in that video has nothing to do with hitting, slapping or smacking. What he's actually doing is BRUSHING the dog's fur the wrong way across its head, while being careful not to touch eyes or the delicate nose. It is a quick, precise movement which, to uneducated dog owners, can seem like he's hitting the dog. Both of my dogs were unruly and could never go for hikes off leash, but since working with Brad both my dogs are worlds better and one of them can now go off leash and will listen to me EVERY time. My other dog still needs some more training, but he will certainly be able to go off leash in the future, it will just take more time and effort on my part.

My question is for those who have DIRECT experience with Brad Pattison OR with one of his CET's.... What was your experience, and how did it affect you and your dog?

People who haven't even met him, or who are 'speaking' on behave of a friend who has, please keep your answers to yourself.

Update:

All dogs learn at different paces, so I was given the knowledge to work with and that is why one dog is still in training.

I tried 3 other trainers before going to Brad.

One told me to use coins in a tin can to deter one of my dogs from barking.....which ended up making him terrified of loud noises when he had no problem with them before.

The other place i went to was in a cubicle in a pet store, but how exactly does that help the dog learn to cope in the 'real' world when you take your dog OUTSIDE where there's different distractions, sights, smells than anything that was indoors?....doesn't work.

And the last place actually encouraged using shock collars to gain control, and a halti - Haltis inhibit a dog's natural ability to move its head or sniff around...it's just a masking tool that never actually fixes the pulling on leash.

Update 2:

Aphrodite, your points make sense, but again you only have assumptions. You can't make judgements on what you think he's like based on his tv show. Granted, you are certainly entitled to an opinion and I value that. Yes, Brad does come across as rude or abrupt, but he is one of the most straight forward and honest people I know. Brad addresses the owners problems as well as the dogs, whereas Cesar only addresses the dogs, and sometimes actually removes the dog from the owner to go his dog psychology center. When the dog is more balanced he returns it to the same people and environment that originally created the issues! How does that help the people or the dog in the long run?

Update 3:

Kaper, I never said he was the best, but I certainly, and finally, got the results that both my dogs and I needed. A balanced, happy pack! The burden of alpha does not have to be carried by one of my dogs anymore now that I know what they need from me in order to be their leader.

Update 4:

Aphrodite, yes I am now, but the dogs joined our family 4 years ago and that's when all the negative experiences with trainers started happening. Finally in their fourth year I found something that worked for them. I enjoy discussing Brad's methods because I had such a positive outcome and I also like to know and learn what other people have experienced or discovered whilst in the presence of k9s.

I'm sorry if something i wrote came across as malicious or rude, typed words have no tone of voice or facial expression, i assure you I meant no harm.

I have never trained with him nor would I ever entertain the idea because he is not a reputable trainer as far as my standards go.

He honestly makes my head hurt when I watch him on TV. I would take Cesar Millan 10 times over before I ever used him. I don't think that guy would know what to do with a REAL working dog with REAL behavioural issues.

I have never had my trainer brush my dog's fur the wrong way as a form of correction.

I actually think it would be hilarious to try that out on my Doberman lol.

You have to remember that generally, people who use someone like Brad Pattison are people that just have unruly PET dogs with no real behavioural issues - it is usually more about the owner needing the right tools to manage their dogs.

If you have a dog that is a little more stubborn than your average dog - things like working on recalls need to be done with a REAL professional dog trainer. That is something that needs to be 100% proofed.

And no, I haven't worked with him and no I have no friends that would be naive enough to use him - but this is a free country and I can feel free to answer this question if I want to.

It is in the better interest of society if people learn there is such thing as a REPUTABLE trainer and one that has a bad comb-over and has no idea what they are really doing. Anyone can learn the basics - real trainers can go beyond that.

A real trainer wouldn't have told you that your dog was trained if it obviously still needs work on its off-leash training.

ADD: Obviously the other trainers you used were ineffective as well.

Want to see real trainers? Contact your local Schutzhund club and find an obedience trainer that way - THAT is real training.

P.S. Why are you asking about other trainers when in this question you stated YOU were a trainer yourself?: http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=An...

You wasted your money. Why would I train with him? He's an idiot.

There's another video, dog walking nicely on the leash. It looks back THREE TIMES TO GET FEED BACK FROM HIM, Brad fails to communicate to the dog that it is right to keep the lead loose. Again THREE TIMES the dog checks with him.

Given no direction from Brad, he hits the end of the leash and he jerks this dog backwards hard.

Why?? Why the hell didn't Brad give the dog any feed back before it did wrong?

WHY did Brad bring his dog to a dog aggressive dogs home without either dog tethered? Why did he scruff the DA dog and yell "That's not how you greet"? The dog doesn't know english. He's lucky he didn't get bit in the face.

He's a horrible dog trainer. Out of him or CM, I'd pick CM and I dislike his training methods as well.

    Ditto everything Aphrodite said.

I am not a fan of Caesar (I haven't seen Stillwell's show) but would much rather him than Brad.

Perhaps he is different in person, but based on what I have seen on his television show I do not like him. He is an embarrassing Canadian answer to Milan. It has nothing to do with allegations of him hitting a dog, abuse, or certain videos. He has bizarre methods based on archaic ideas. I don't agree with a lot of what he says, not just what he does (that video of him coming into someone's yard with his dog and losing control was downright embarrassing).

Unless his methods are drastically different in person, I am not interested in training with him.

There are very few on this forum who have even heard of him, it is unlikely you will find someone who has trained with him.

    -----

None of your other trainers sound like they had a clue either. Just because he is the best out of some poor examples of trainers does not make him great.

    ------

Keep in mind anyone can call themselves a trainer. Even being paid to train doesn't mean they know what they are doing.
