Imagine if you have a house made of cards. If you start removing some of the cards, nothing may happen. However, the whole house of cards may collapse if one of the cards is missing. An ecosystem is like a house of cards, and the dolophins are one of the cards. The role of the dolphins or any other species in the environment is a topic in marine ecology. However, a marine biologist may not be able to say for sure whether dolphins are an indispensable part of the environment unless they have been removed and the effects studied. Therefore it is best if we do nothing to harm the dolphins, because extinction is irreversible and any harm cannot be undone. Without the dolphins, there may be little or no effect or there could be a collapse.

Because, if you get rid of dolphins, they will make the food chain "go haywire". For example, a type of food that a dolphin would eat, lets say fish, would grow in such big numbers, there would be more fish then any other species in the sea. This would happen because the dolphins weren't there to control the population of fish by eating them. The other animals above dolphins in the food chain, for example sharks, would be effected too because if the dolphins were gone, then the sharks and other animals that eat dolphins would run out of their food supply, which would again make the chain "go haywire". So dolphins, and all organisms really, are important to this world. Hope it helps! = )
