I regularly feed the birds in my garden, but in a week I will be moving. Is it best to stop feeding them now?

Once I move I will be unable to access the garden. I plan to set up a feeding station in my new home, but am concerned abut my regular visitors.

Update:

The row of properties will be empty for quite a while as they are due to be renovated, so I have no idea when the house will be re-occupied.

A kind heart and loving interest in birds is what I see in you.

Obviously you are concerned for the birds welfare.

    I think that is wonderful.

Although it is true that the birds have become reliant on the feeding there, they do supplement and feed from nature. The problem is in winter there is not as much to feed on.

Continue to feed. Place extra feed there the day you leave. Also place an additional feeder that will add to the time before the supply is depleted.

Leave a note for the new tenants to find.

    Example:

Dear friend, I left a feeder in the garden for the birds.

They have been such a blessing to see and take care of for me for so long. Would you enjoy them for yourself and feed them through the winter?. I wish you happeness here and joy in all you see and do.

    Thank you,

    Blessings.

It's never good to stop feeding birds once you've started as they come to rely on your food and loose the ability to find their own. As you are moving away , will the future occupant consider feeding them, in any case feed them right up to the time you move no point in making them do without till they have to.

I too think you should continue to feed the birds until you move. I am hopeful the new occupants will be as considerate as you.

Rangefinder had wonderful advice, and so eloquently said.

No, carry on as usual. They'll find alternative sources of food elsewhere once you're gone, or perhaps the new owners will carry on feeding them.

It would possible be a good thing to do because the people who move in after you may be allergic to birds or just may not like them, so if you carry on you may p*** the next people to live in your current house.

Yes have a chat wih the birds about you moving + tell them to look for an alternative food source.

Gosh. Some people are barking mad!

It is considered good etiquette to inform them first so that they can make alternative arrangements. Stopping on alternate days would be polite.

Leave them a forewarding address so they'll know where to go feed.
