Do you people really think that a teen should only date a person their own age?
I mean when I was young it was considered normal for the boy to be a couple years older than the girl. This was the norm and if you look at real life most of the men are a few years older than their wives or girlfriends. Why is this normal for everyone else but not for teens? I am not a teen by any means but am having a hard figuring out who you think your teens should date since it seems like any age difference is outlawed.
I got lots of great answers to this question but most of the answerers were teens or young at least. I am interested in a parents perspective (someone with teen aged girls or boys).

Age is only a number, a number does not define you,
You should date someone you have feelings for.

the thing is- there's a difference in maturity level in your teen years than in your adulthood. So maturity wise, a 40 year old dating a 50 year old is more or less in the same level of maturity. but a 14 year old and an 18 year old are completely different levels of mature. And then there's the legal aspect- the age of consent is 16, so if a 14 year old and 18 year old had sex than it would be considered satuatory (sp?) rape and the 18 year old could be listed as a sex offender.
Personally, I'm 16 and the oldest I'd date would be a senior (18 y/o) because otherwise I feel like it'd be really awkward. But at the same time, I wouldn't date an 8th grader because that's a large gap in maturity (14 and 16 year old level is way different)

In my opinion age is ONLY a number. You fall for who you fall for despite the age difference. Love basically knows no limit. I mean i wouldnt date someone 10+ years older but if you are over the age of consent(16 in my state). i see NO problem dating a person A few years older. Age doesnt mean anything. As long as they treat you right, respect your limits/values, spend time with you, introduce you to family, give you the attention you need, etc. then i see no problem .And make sure the older one in the relationship knows they can not and will not run over you.

My husband is one year older then me. I like it that way. It always seems normal for the guy to be a little bit older then the girl. However in high school most teens date the opposite sex in there grade year. At least it was like that at my high school.

I personally think that age is just a number. I have always thought that. You can't help who you fall for. I mean obviously a teen should be dating someone in reason. It's just that as a teen you have a lot of hormones going through your body. Making you think different things...

i'm a teen, i think that dating boys a couple of years older is normal as is dating a boy the same age, i wouldn't normally go for younger boys but i suppose you can't help who you fall for. and age is just a number to some extent..

As long as the age difference isn't too dramatic then i do not see why people have a problem with it... But that's just my own personal opinion.

I would think it's weird if the girls like 12 and the boys like, 17, but if your like, 15 and your boyfreinds like, 17, I dont find that weird?

No , as long as it's not a 14 year old and a 30 year old , or that extreme it's fine,

it's normal for a girl to date a guy older than her
after all, is sciencific proven that girls are more mature than boys
that's way we get purberty usually first
or something like that...
