how far back can i have checked for a income tax return?

i spent time in the military and never applied for a tax return for 6 or 7 years can i still collect something

    You have until 4/15/2011 to file and still get a refund from 2007. Years before that are already forfeited.

    You don't mention it, but if you were in a combat zone, the time spent in the combat zone extends the 3 year statute by the time spent in the combat zone plus 180 days.

    Refunds must be claimed within 3 years of the original due date or else they are lost.

    2007 is the oldest year for which refunds can be claimed as of now.

    If you didn't file for 6 or 7 years, then you have probably committed a crime that the IRS can easily prove. Ignore it.
