I don't know if it is illegal or not, but it is certainly not fair to the birds. It's like you're offering up food for them to come in and get killed. Several times a year I have masses of starlings that come to feed and I let them. They don't stay around long but I stop putting out food for the ground feeders for a week and that usually gets rid of most of them. I have also put away the feeder that the larger birds use and only keep up the cage type bird feeders for the smaller birds and this helps also,

It's usually illegal because of firearms near houses. And if they are federally protected migratory birds because that's baiting. Poor sportsmanship.
Watch out for ricochet off the cement of the porch.

I'll just assume you are a low class Redneck and ignore you. Since you are uneducated you may need someone to read the following descriptions of your kind.
Redneck:
an uneducated white farm laborer, esp. from the South. 2. a bigot or reactionary, esp. from the rural working class or lower.

It depends, some states and countries have laws about shooting wild birds, and some birds are protected (like in Australia magpies are protected).
Why would you want to shoot it anyways? thats just inhumane!!!
