if your dad reset the router you will have to begin by using the user name: admin and the password: password and go through the setup stage for your router and then configure it to connect to your phone

Yes it is. Any neighbour, or anyone driving past may connect to it and download enough to put any user over their monthly download limit. This costs them a fine, or even cutting off their service until the beginning of the next month's contract period. Also if it is unsecured anyone nearby with a wireless machine can read VERY packet sent in clear text, including user names and passwords, emails, and banking addresses. This is also a risk at free wif points. And on your own wifi, if it was unsecured by the time you have read this a local criminal can have sent thousands of child porn or money scam emails from your account. These will trace back to you, and it would be your door the police would break down (literally, they do NOT knock) and ALL your equipment they would confiscate pending a successful prosecution.

look on the back of the router there will be an address and password

type the webaddress into a web browser, it will be something like www.routerlogin.net or something like that

from there you will be asked for the password, which is usually written in teh same place, once logged itnot eh router, find the wireless settings and change the password.

make sure you write it down incase you forget it or have to change or add other wireless devices to the network.

it is also sometimes written on the back of the router or in the documents that come with it as 'Network ID/Key'

Reset the router to factory settings. The WEP key is on the label on the rear or bottom of the router.
