Ok, so i'm going to make my boyfriend a birthday cake (golf ball) but how do I make the ball?

My plan is to get a circle cake pan, and put another layer on top. then im going to make the top look like a golf course. I posted a link to what im hoping the cake will look like when im done. So my question is, how do I make the ball? I was thinking about getting a donut hole and covering it in white icing, would that work? I could always put a real one on there, I would just perfer it to be edible, lol. thanks so much for your help!

Make rice crispies and while it is still hot mold it into a ball. Let it cool and then frost it.

For the ball you can definitely go with the rice krispies idea but I think it would be cool if it were allllll cake : ) you would need to bake an extra cake..... (and yes a lot of it will go to waste but hey its his b-day).... and "carve out a ball shape from it.

You can actually carve out two halves for the ball and "glue" them together with icing before you frost the whole ball. leave a spot un-frosted so you can sit it on top of the main cake and don't forget to let the icing "set'' for a little while so you can do the little indention's on the golf ball. This is an awesome idea for a cake and a challenge too.... good luck!!

The rice crispies is the way to go if you are just looking for something round.

If you have your heart set on cake, rent a pan from a cake or pastry shop. It is a small

    round ball pan.

The donut hole will be too small...

when you level thee cake take the extras that come off the top and crumble that cake into small pieces, add some frosting to the cake crumbles and form into a ball, freeze it till hardened and then frost with white frosting and take a q-tip and press into the frosted ball to make the texture of a golf ball and freeze again
