It has Vista as its OS and I think I must make a recovery disc (DVD or CD) I am familiar with XP but this is a friends computer and I don't know it very well, if possible explain in the most simple terms please, As far as I can tell there is no virus as AVG scan says OK.
After the first guys answer. Yes it does have a Recovery on disc "E" is this enough or should I make a copy

Press F11 during boot to enter recovery mode. If your HP LapTop does not have bult in recovery, then you need to buy/make recovery discs. If you have a recovery CD, then that is enough. Or follow the steps on the website I gave you.
