CNN reports that 2.82 million homes received at least one foreclosure notice in 2009. I don't know if that means the bank took them all, some managed to avoid foreclosure, or that some homes were foreclosed on more than once!
Numbers are just in for 2010, and the new record is 2.9 million! With about 127 million households in the USA (and these numbers are all for the US only), 100 million of which are home owners rather than renters, 5.72% / million have lost their homes! With and average of 3.2 people per household, this means 18.3 million people (or put another way, the entire population of Florida) have been forced or chosen to move out of their homes in the last two years...
