Both my parents have light colored eyes, but I have dark brown?
My mother's eyes are grey, while my fathers are a darker hazel. I'm under the impression that those with recessive light colored eyes cannot have dark eyed children.
But I've also heard the term "jumping gene" without knowing exactly what that is.
No, I'm not adopted, and yes, my father definitely has homozygous recessive (both his parents had blue eyes)
My grandmother on my mother's side has brown eyes. I must have gotten them from her.
Can someone sort this out for me? I am NOT a biologist.
doug, aren't dark eyes dominant though? they can't be both dom and recessive, can they?

Somewhere, your ancestors carried the recessive allele ofdark eyes, when two of these carriers met up, they produced an offsprinng with dark eyes, EG your parents -> You
