Christians, does God himself administer and hold together for all eternity that place of eternal torment?

This is not a question about whether or not there is a place of eternal torment. This question is based on what the Bible tells us about a place of eternal torment reserved for Satan and all his followers which includes all of unsaved humanity.

Since God is the force that holds together the entire universe, is God also the force that will hold together that place of eternal torment reserved for Satan, his angels and those who are unsaved? We know that nothing can occur without his will, so will God be personally administering this place and meeting out the punishment throughout eternity?

The reason I ask is because someone else has asked me these questions and I could do with some Christian views and Bible references. This is not a homework project - I'm long past the age of being assigned homework! I just need some help.

Update:

Mickey, this question is not about whether God exists, his sovereignty or Jesus being one of the three personages who make up the one being who is God. Please check out my profile - I'm a Christian.

Update 2:

Some very interesting points of view - some of which are entirely new to me! May I just point out, again, that I am not putting forward my own view. I was asked this very question and I am seeking guidance, from the Bible, on how best to answer the question. Asking questions on R&S is an excellent way of getting others to focus their minds - and if nobody asked any questions, what would happen to R&S?

Finally, I do not believe God administers hell, but I need to collect scriptural evidence to refute the notion. Also, I do not support the heresy that God is a force. I am a Bible believing, Trinitarian Christian.

Update 3:

Psalm 139:8 is translated as Sheol and as hell (in the KJAV). The NIV says "If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there" - which is a visualisation of two vertical extremes. It is worth noting that the English word 'hell' and the Hebrew word 'Sheol' do NOT mean a place of eternal torment (like the burning lake of sulpher). Hell, or Sheol means the grave.

Matthew 25:41 is interesting because Jesus absolutely says that there is an "eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels." But who is he speaking about when he says "Depart from me, you who are cursed into the eternal fire"? He is not speaking about the devil and his angels! He is speaking about those persons (who are on the left side of the King) who fail to take care of "the righteous" (who are on the right side of the King). Verse 46 confirms that "they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life." Yes, that place of eternal fire is prepared for the

Update 4:

Good point from I Try, that God will not need to maintain it. And Carol gets a thumb's up from me for such a short, sweet and succinct answer! By the way, I have not give anyone a thumb's down.

According to Colossians 1: 15-17 it is Christ Jesus who holds everything together, including this universe: “In him all things hold together.” This is fitting because it is Christ Jesus, as the Word, through whom all things were created. Remember, at creation, God spoke everything into being. Romans 14:10-12 tells us that Christ Jesus is the Lord of both the dead and the living. He holds the keys of death and of Hades (Revelation 1:18) which are thrown into the lake of fire, the second death (Revelation 20:14-15). Hades is the intermediate state between death and judgment. This burning lake of sulphur is what I mean when using the word ‘hell’ in this context.

God is light and he dwells in unapproachable light (1 Timothy 6:16). God is pure and holy and cannot look upon sin. Even Jesus was abandoned by his Father at Calvary because Jesus had taken on the sin of the world. Of God we learn: “Your eyes are too pure to look on evil. You cannot tolerate wrong” (Habakkuk 1:13).

We know, from the Bible, that hell is the opposite of heaven. While heaven is purity and light, hell is evil and dark. Blackest darkness is reserved for evil men: “For whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever” (Jude verse 13).

How then could God be found in the midst of darkness, sin and evil? To suggest that God is personally administering the punishment in hell for all eternity, that God is personally going to be in hell and meeting out eternal punishment to Satan and all who follow him, is to misunderstand what hell is. It is not a physical place in a physical universe. Wherever, or whatever, hell turns out to be, it is the absence of God. It is the absence of light.

God does not personally administer heaven or our universe, because God is Spirit. All things have been handed over by the Father to the Son, and having created everything seen and everything unseen, they are sustained, or held together, by Christ Jesus. Hell is the eternal holding place of Satan, his demons and all who have rejected Christ Jesus. Neither the Father, the Son or the Holy Spirit will be in that place. God lives in unapproachable light and heaven is as far removed from hell as light is from darkness. It is enough for God to speak, and it is. God spoke light into being. God is light. One thing we can be assured of is that hell is infinite, it is eternal death and everlasting destruction (2 Thessalonians 1:9). Praise God that, through Jesus, we can escape this eternal fate (John 3:16, 18, 36).

Open your bible and you will say Peter the Apostle saying that it is by his WORD that things hold togther. God again is not a force. Otherwise we would talk of God being equated to gravity, his word may be that force.

About will some of you guys want to have sex with someone else but you have not been given the chance so people think that you are good right? No you are bad because given the chance you would do it.

Just because I will something does not mean I personally have to do it.

Again That means that Jesus is God because if you read the acconts of the demonica try Luke 8 you will see that the demons as Jesus, have you come to torment us before the time.

James says that Demons know that God is an they tremble, Jesus came and they trembled. Jesus angles will do the tormenting of satan and his angels.

But as for people not saved they will just burn in the Lake of Fire.

Martin Luther stated that; “God is not bound to a locality. He cannot be excluded from any place nor can he be limited to or locked in any place. ... He is in even the lowliest creature, in a leaf or a blade of grass, yet God is nowhere.”

The question arose whether God is everywhere potentialiter or substantialiter [in power or in substance], as a question of whether God was a potential or an essential ground.

Luther: “I answer: in both ways in each creature. The creature acts by virtue of its qualitas, its qualities, but God acts...essentialiter, from the depth of his essence.”

When someone said ‘That I don’t understand,’ Luther answered: ‘Don’t you believe that God is at the same time present on the cross and in the virgin Mary’s womb? In either case it is impossible for our reason to believe. In the same way that God can be lodged in the virgin’s womb, he can also live in every creature.’

Another person said: ‘Would God consequently be in the devil?’

Luther answered; ‘Yes, certainly in substance even in hell...as Psalm 139[:8a] says: “If I make my bed in Sheol, thou are there”.’”

(Bengt R. Hoffman, Theology of the Heart [Minneapolis: Kirk House Publishers, 1998], p. 84. The “Table Talk” quotations are from WT 1; 101, 27-37.)

Matthew 25:41 tells us that Hell was prepared for the Devil and his angels. That’s why such a place was prepared in the first place.

It was not by original plan and design for men and women--for human sinners. It was prepared for the Devil and his angels

When we read about the new Jerusalem in Revelation, we can see that there are others outside the city. The city has been lowered from heaven by God as the place where all Christians will live forever with God. There are no stars, sun or moon as they have been destroyed with the heavens and God himself is the light to the city.

God has told us how He will also destroy the present earth, so this destroyed place is where the others [goats] will live forever with their God, Satan. The symbolic lake of fire is this separation from God and His paradise where they have nothing but know what it is like inside the New Jerusalem but as we are shown with the story about the rich man and Lazarus, there is no way across from one to the other. They are there forever in what they decided to accept, the absence of God forever, it would be like being tossed into a lake of fire and being tormented forever, as per scriptures.

God will not need to maintain it, He has made it to be what it is forever, no sun, stars, moon or seas, just Satan, his angels and separation from God forever.

There is much to this, but know this for now and if you wish email for more.

Why do so many believe satan's lie about people going to hell? The bible says no one will go to hell.

God is good, so hell is out.

Without hell as an option. This is the new question:

Will you choose to know God or wait and have nothing stored in heaven?

We are not meant to go to hell, the test is whether you will seek and know God here and now. For it is written:

    Philippians 2:9-11 (New International Version)

9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place

and gave him the name that is above every name,

10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,

in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.

This says every knee will bow and tongue confess Jesus, so how can we go to hell if we confess Jesus? We can not.

    take care.

Everyone: above, below and on the earth will confess Jesus is Lord. Sounds like no hell to me, though we can have treasures and will get rewards in heaven. Some will have much and some nothing. Those who come late may have nothing forever and ever. Nothing but eternal life that is. And where this will be I do not know, I tell what God has told me. Not what I believe unless one asks just for that.

Dear Grey Tower..............The Lake of Fire is not in the Universe in Time and Space but is an Eternal state. It is the second death and is seperation from God.

There are many scriptural references concerning this state and the remedy or antidote against going there. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved the Bible teaches.

Rev 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

Rev 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

This passage refers to those who took the Mark of the Beast but there are many concerning unregenerate man and his destiny.

God wishes that no one should perish but that all should come to redemption in Jesus Christ.

Those who will be seperated from God do so at their own choice....God has provided the way of escape but stubborn man will not believe and rejects God's offer of pardon.

In the Eternal state there are two realities.....

    1. In the presence of God.....we call this heaven.

    2. Out of the presence of God......we call this Hell or the Lake of Fire.

All I can do is plead with those reading to not choose to go to this place of no hope, but to accept God's plan of redemption, and call on the name of Jesus......you will be saved.

    Something to ponder on.

Man does not, never has, and never will possess immortality, this only God possesses "..., and Lord of lords: Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto;..." 1Tim 6 15-16

Man was created mortal "...:and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live fore ever: Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man;..." Gen 3:22-24

These verses clearly state Adam and Eve had eternal life only through eating the fruit from the tree of life.

Eternal life is only given to the saved whom must also eat from the tree of life "...that they may have right to the tree of life,..." Rev 22:14

This negates the existence of hell as one in hell does not have access to the tree of life. The unsaved face eternal death and they shall be as though they never existed.

Now God also declares that sin will never again exist yet those in hell will curse God which is sin. He also states concerning Satan "...: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub,..." "..., and never shalt thou be any more." Eze 28:16,19

The fire spoken of in hell is actually the means by which God will destroy the unsaved, Satan and fallen angles. Interesting point here is God said he would not destroy the world again through water (flood) but water will burn at extremly high tempertures. There is water in the atmosphere, upon the land and below, can you imagine all this water burning at an incredibly high temperature, hence the lake of fire. This is how God will cleanse the earth.

What people say and what the Bible teaches are sometimes vastly different. The lake of fire reserved for the Devil and his angels will burn them to "ashes". Like Sodom and Gomorrah. Gone. It's eternal because it's always there ("everlasting burnings"), but it's only torment for the bad guys, and only temporarily ("the second death").

Source(s): Keyword search at www.biblegateway.com (King James Version): "the day that cometh shall burn them up" "for they shall be ashes" Malachi 4:1,3 "Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly... Isaiah 33:14,15 "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and ...all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Revelation 21:8 "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." Revelation 20:14 See http://www.bibleprophecytruth.com/

I was under the impression, from what I have read that God left that to the devil. Those who reject Gods gift of salvation go into the pit with satan and that is that. And it is the peoples will, as God gave us free will, which is what we wanted from the beginning, that has determined the outcome. After those who reject God are sent away with satan the new world remains 1000 years then again there will be final judgement and the last of those to reject God are sent away with satan. Then no more will there be sadness, crime, pain on this earth.

The sheep on the right and goats on the left; the latter which is type eternal torment

Tore (torment) by unbelief as unity in bounding under what hearts chooses as best, out reason of belonging or concerned with/for others. Were the base of Christianity lies is Jesus is the type and image of times of choice to kindness as caring or not. And so the whole world will be measured by who the poor we are.

For this was the judgment of hearts, which God so sees in under grace , for he came to save the whole world and so all were under his cross, and was defined in the poor as the standard of all to heart of each soul. For it say work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, so each to his care and how we treat one another is the 2000 year coarse of times in its judgment (each in his own) as all will fit in this heart disclosures of each is bottom line including the whole of creation.

In as to “eternity” God is not eternal in the business to eternal any thing. In fact he is slow to anger, in so he is made perfect for his image sake; in so the will of each will take its own place, he who was a goat, and so in image he/she will be of its kind. And even so the second death will judge these maters of extreme but as the lord said you follow me.

For this word is passing away even as we speak to its end and so I say be alert for blessed is he who is in the first resurrection for the second has no hold on him .

The solid foundation now is it tarring or calling to be?

God image is the energy that will hold together, His> his, and we who love his appearing will be the newness of his coming, ours; it is here and will in grow in the poor of heart.

Blessed (fortunate or prosperous, and so throughout) are the poor (those who are not spiritually arrogant) in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:3 NASB)
