Which language should i take for high school?
i either want to take Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. I am Chinese and most i think all of my relative already know how to speak Mandarin but i dont know that much. I by the end of this school year i would have taken two years of Spanish and i was recommended for 2nd year honors Spanish. The only reason i would choose Spanish is because of the recommendation from my teacher. i don't like learning Spanish that much but i want to do what is best for my future and i want to know which language would help me the most.
i live in the midwest

I think that Spanish is far more useful for people who expect to be employed in the United States. My Spanish is very poor, and I often wish that I were fluent.

Take Spanish in school. Where I work, they hired a native Spanish speaker to teach Spanish to the executives. And, the Spanish they want is Mexican Spanish.

That is not to discount Chinese. After all, they are likely to be our business partners for many, many years. And -- you can make a lot of friends within your family if you, privately, chose a relative to teach you better Mandarin.

Well, I personally cannot stand the spanish culture and have no desire to work or communicate with them. Mandarin chinese is in just as much demand as spanish in business. I would seriously consider studying mandarin, it will be easier for you to learn and speak, plus you can get help from your family if you struggle.

You didn't say what part of the country that you live in, but if you live in the Southern US, one can't get a job unless you know Spanish! (It's a plus) Millions have moved to the US.
However, if you are international business major, it might be desirable to major in Chinese. Everything is made in China.
Can you Take Chinese as an elective?
