The fan activates when the overall temperatures go above a certain threshold.
High temperatures are caused by several factors:
- Excessive CPU loads due to CPU-intensive applications such as games.
- Dirty components
- Blocked exhaust vents.
Turn off the machine for a while, let it cool, then turn it back on but don't load any applications. Let it run for a while and check if your fan activates. If it does, then the issue points to dirty components or blocked vents. You may need to remove some dust with a wipe or a vacuum cleaner.
Start loading apps one at a time and let them run for a while. There may be a specific program that's causing an overload in the CPU which turns into higher temperatures. If software is the cause, then additional investigation is required to determine if the software requires higher processing power (a better CPU, or additional RAM) or to determine exactly what triggers the overload.
