Very basically, your eye is a lens that takes the light that enters your eye and converges it to the back of your eye, where your brain interprets it into an image.
However, if your eye can't properly focus or bend the light correctly, the image is blurry. By adding a glasses lens between your eye and the object, the glasses help your eye focus the light to the right spot.
